Ravenstar
Anyone know if Reaper has any plans for a star ship line? Theres not much on the market besides the full thrust line and the dp9 jc line and they are not sure if they are going to release any new ships. So I would like to see something new and think Reaper would of course produce a winner .. chris
John Bear Ross
Chris! Hey, sir, long time no type! There is a starship game in the works, using the same Damage Track system, but other than the name "Imperator", nothing's emerged just yet. Any scale suggestions for the game's future minis? Best, John Bear Ross
AeA
There is a starship game in the works, using the same Damage Track ™ system Wheeee! :-) Any scale suggestions for the game's future minis? Large enough to allow eye candy, but small enough to function as playing pieces without trouble?-) Nearly everyone else on the market is happily committing over and over again the mistake of extending way past the mini's base when the rules state base-to-base contact is needed, making the miniatures unwieldy as playing pieces at the best, and completely unuseable so often it's way past sad. I am a "rules first" kind of gamer, and will happily game with counters if the minis don't work, but if the minis do work with the game they're inteded for AND they look nice... well, I do suffer from figmentia. <g> And please stick with a single scale for everything: mixed scales, like DP9's JC stuff, looks just plain bad. T'Sarith DeGaalth
I would suggest scaling things so that reapers ships match the size of the general run of the Full THrust ships (i can't remember the scale off hand). THen I can use my existing fleets with my new Reaper ships. Instant Galactice Armada!
wolf
I wonder if there is some stuff out there, something like teasers to give us an idea what is to come? :)
Ravenstar
Hi John , yea I know been real busy with work and making minis. as far as scale goes I think going the fullthrust way is good. if they go to small like the starblazers ( which i love and have all) I think alot of people would stay away from them.some of us are getting old and can't see much ..oh my. if you go to big like the first B5 minis ( yes which I have all) , that can scare off people too. but if you could use them in other games ( which I would) like FT and DP9's JC, they would also seel with out a cav version . so what are you working on now , still making the cav models , hope thay are going well. chris
Chrome
Don't get too excited yet guys, it'll be a while before Imperator comes out. And I mean years, not months. Warlord won't be out until later this year, then it looks like AICOM would be next, and then possibly Imperator - only if the market looks good for it. FanPro just announced that they'll be releasing starship minis for BT. My guess would be if they don't sell a good number of them, that Reaper may hesitate to get into the spaceship game market, which is extremely niche. Look at Agents of Gaming. Sure losing the B5 license hurt them, but it was the fact that Fleet Action 2 didn't sell well that caused them to close down.
nadinbrzezinski
On the other hand.... GW just rereleased BattleGothic. Mind you BFG from a pont of view of aesthetics, is the most impressive fleet I have seen... in particular the Imperial, closely followed by Chaos, cannot wait for Tau... Mechanically it is Epic in Space, and I love Epic for its sheer simplicity, so I was a shoehorn for BFG. Now it might be a good idea to look at how the Specialist range is handled by GW... thuogh that is a good way to really anger retailers. oh and anything Fan Pro annonces Chrome, take it with a grain of salt. Why? I will restate what I have said before at other places, they are doing now ALL they were told to do over five years ago. What they are doing, and for that they get brownie points, is too little, too late. Why? The sales trends have not turned. In fact with a space game, they were told to release minis for it, when they first issued BattleSpace, which they never did. Yes space games are a niche market, but.... Now I would take the advise of doing them in Full Thrust scale seriously though there is one problem with this. The FT minis had no detail, were lumps of metal... and you cannot get the system that easily any more in north america since the licence went back to England and nobody else in North American distributes it any more. (Ydes I was thinking of those cross over sales) Of course it will be years before Imperator is released, so most of this will probably be forgotten in the mix :D Nadin
Ravenstar
what does the Imperator look like ? is it the ship in the rules book? The ships for BT are in the works , I know because I'm sculpting some of them. And even though the rights went back to the UK , you can still get them. I just recieved the Japanese fleet two weeks ago. Great models. yes the shippings can be high , but even when Geo-hex had the minis , there were alot of things you still had to get over seas , or wait for a while. Me I would like to see some ships from Reaper , just to see what they come up with. they have a great team , and a lot of fire , so to me it would be great. chris
nadinbrzezinski
Raven I did not meant to imply that they are not doing it... just that what they are doing is too little too late as many ex tech players will tell you. For the record I am not blind and they are giving that game far more support than it has gotten in literally years, but think about it, where they could have been if that support was given oh five years ago.. what about ten? And that is all I am going to say about it. nadin
wolf
Hey Chrome and Nadin, thanks for the input as I now have a better idea about Imperator. I'm with you on being impressed with BFG and Epic, though I've never gotten involved with either, but I have thought about it.
nadinbrzezinski
I have both... the problem I have with both is finding opponents for Epic in particular. Given that I usually put together my vacation armies, and just go to the stores and find an oponent and tell them, hey I really do not know this game that well.. (40K) and I have actually put some effort into either of those... tells you a lot. BFG, this release we got it, between the store discount and the fact that we fell in love with the minis.... the last time around. Though they did their classic, I want another gunboat as it were... they give you enough to build two of them, and then you will have to order parts pieces from them... or four ships, but different types. In the end I know I will probably call mail order and get some more for the at least another destroyer I want. Now as to how they are presented. The main box uses plastics, which I know for many reasons most minis companies don't do. The detail on those plastics is quite impresive. The metal ships, such as the Dauntless, we were impressed since they do the sculpts for the two major types as it where. They paint well and for once I feel I am actually getting what I am paying for with GW... of course somebody will read this and go... time to raise prices! Hold it they just did! :p Nadin
Ravenstar
I know you didn't imply that they were not being made , I'm just having fun working on the BT stuff and thought I would share :) I do understand about the long wait , I've also been asking for years for some BT ships minis. is the Imperator a reaper design or are you talking about the BFG ships , yes I'm lost.lol
nadinbrzezinski
I'm talking about the BFG boxed set. I fear these days I have become a rules collector though.... :D I dunno between the minis and the rules... my bank accouint is bound to suffer one of these days. Have fun with them though... I know I do have fun as well. Nadin
Daley's Dragoons
Joining Nadin as a rule collector as of late I must say that the rulebook for the Starblazers mini game has to be one of the worst I have ever come across (and I have nearly everyone out there when it comes to the star ship games). A real shame considering all the fond memories of the cartoon from my youth. BFG is one of the better games out there, I personally like the scale for painting and think they did a really good job in making the ship scale to one another look pretty good as well.
