Stubbdog
This is a thread to get peoples thoughts on what all could be used in stead of string for some of these instances that require shapeable markers. Although there is nothing wrong with using string, I am the type of person who likes to create cool terrain. Makes for a more pleasing game in my opinion. So to turn around and use a piece of string just kinda wrenches my gut. So, am starting this thread to get other ideas as to decent ways to get shapeable markers but with something a little more appropriate than string. Erion
For nanostone/nanobarrier I plan on making some nice formcore walls in appropriate scales. Maybe check out JR Minatures -- I think they have some 2" wall sections. As far as some of the other effects, if they don't last more than a turn I'm not terribly concerned about having string on the table. Smoke is easy -- cotton balls painted grey or even steel wool. Stubbdog
I've thought about foamcore or other similar, but the problem again is that it is suppose to be shapeable. Granted most of the time I would figure that people shape them to be straight lines or some type of slight curve, but thats not always gonna be the case. And I will use string too if I cant come up with anything else, but that is what this thread is here for to see if anyone has thought of something else. Wreckmaster
I'm not quite shure what you are asking, Dchi. What type or purpose of marker are you refering to?
Erion
I thought he was meaing stuff like minefields, walls, smokescreens, etc. I thought about using some GW Tau drone bodies and lining them up around the string for hover drone mines. Start with six of them, and take one away for every time the field scores a point of damage till they're all gone. . .
Stubbdog
Yes, I was talking about the instances and such that require the 12 inch strings. The ones requiring a 2 inch string you could probably easily substitute out something else, but a 12 inch string that the player can put in whatever shape he/she wants, is kinda hard to replace with unbendable foamcore or the like (I guess unless you did it in connected 1 inch lengths)
Erion
Or it could mark the beginning of Reaper's "CAV Accessories" line of models. . . Just thinking out loud.

Erion
Or just use a flexible tape measure. Bah! Suck all the fun out it, why don't you.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted December 16, 2004 Moderator Share Posted December 16, 2004 No really. Every gamer's wife quilts, right? ("Why do you paint little metal men and push them around a table?" "Well, why do you cut up fabric into little bits then sew it all back together again?") So go out and buy one of those flexible retractible tape measures (buy her one too, it'll stock up on Wife-Points), print out a Reaper logo, slap it on yours (very important that it be yours and not hers) and go from there. Heck, Reaper should sell them.
Erion
Actually, for beta testing I've been cutting up the dozens of little plastic WizKids measureing tapes I've got laying around.
