comicbkguy
This was the piece I did for Jubilee in the Winter exchange. I don't paint much anymore and it is starting to show. There are parts that I though could have been smoother. But I was happy enough with the design on the shield and his face that I didn't want to dip it and start over. She seems to like it and that is good enough for me. Let me know what you think.
Jubilee
Hey comicbkguy, that picture really doesn't do justice to the image on his shield! Did you freehand it or was it a decal? My husband an I are in disgreement on this point. ;) Either way, it's very impressive! As soon as I can clear up my painting table (it's a mess with christmas projects), I will take a picture! Also, please tell me how you got that effect on his wings. His face is very expressive, I love it. :)
styates
That is indeed impressive. Comicbkguy, if you did that shield freehand, you are indeed a god. If not, it's still a darn fine piece and I'd be extremely proud to have painted it if I were you!
comicbkguy
I freehanded the shield, but I did it in reverse. I started with a black shield and added the metallics. If I had it to do over again I think I would just paint in the black with really thin paint, since I had to touch up alot of it that way anyway. I did the wings by stipling on four different colors. I have an old brush that I have cut down really short and flat, and it is very stiff. You just load it up with paint and wipe it off like drybrushing, but you dab the paint on instead of brushing it. You just start with you darkest color, and work up through how many colors you want to use. Just make sure you don't get complete coverage with any one color. Thanks for the kind words guys. Jubilee
My husband says, "I would like to see a miniature that he (comicbkguy) IS happy with, then.." :) Your method for the wings sounds similar to doing sponge painting to make marble. I hadn't thought to use it for smaller things with a brush. Can't wait to try it.. :) /ali
Darkstar
My husband says, "I would like to see a miniature that he (comicbkguy) IS happy with, then.." :) Exactly. That's what I'M saying! This piece is really original and cool. Is there any way we could get a closer shot of the freehand on the shield and the funky beaten metal effect on the wings please? I can be patient if it takes awhile, just keep it mind as I, at least, would like to see it in more detail. Thanks.
deep_sashelas
Wow. That's a cool mini. Now, everyone is impressed by the shield freehand and the beaten metal wings, but I want to point out that I really like those red freehand crosses on the cloak also. They're subtle, and seem just like highlights at a glance. I didn't even notice them at first cos I was busy staring at the wings and shield, but looking closely, there's another "omg" small detail revealed factor.
