In Warlord you can field pretty much any mini as a Merc, right?  For instance, I really like the Crusader facton, but I don't care for the grunts as much, could I then field Duke Gerard as a Merc. warlord with a Griffon and maybe a couple of Reptus Breakers (etc, ad nauseum)?

Yes, you certainly could, Reptus being neutral and all. However, you'd essentially be a "Free Company" with no faction abilities.

Sounds like a really cool armylist, though! have fun with it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you are still using everyone's 'proper' data cards, you must still obey the Golden Rule - "Good and Evil models cannot be in the same fighting company".

By "proper data cards", I mean that you are using Duke Gerrard's data card for your Duke Gerrard model, and not Orba's data card.

You are quite correct, Gus. I read it as Deus_Omega just feilding a bunch of different models together as a free company.

In game where no one cared if you proxied Gerard for Orba to gain the Merc faction abilities, then rock on. However, in "official" games, then the answer would likely be no. You can't proxy Gerard for Orba, and vise versa.

However, if all you want is a cool hodge-podge fighting force, then you certainly can field Gerard as a Warlord (good) commanding a group of Reptus Breakers(neutral) with a Griffon (neutral) as a solo model. In fact that soulnd like a pretty scary combo. But as I mentioned before, you would gain no benifit of a Faction ability.

However, Gerard IS a tough-as-nails Warlord, and Reptus Breakers hit pretty hard, and the dawrves' Griffon is an excellent and effective solo model. So I'd say go for it! Let us know how it works out for you!

Actually, what I had in mind was a totally neutral company, using the Merc. Army List, just changing some of the character's names. (That way I could use some of my older DHL or whatever minis). But I still like my crusaders, and think that the Griffon is better suited to them than a bunch of stumpy Dorfs. Though, fielding a free company seems pretty crunchy, I don't want to min-max it too much.
