Daidoji Kisu

Recommended Posts

This is the last figure from Reaper's Legend of the Five Rings: Rokugan Miniature line that my brother 'requested'.

This guy is all armor. I have no idea how you would wound this character - aim for the knee caps I guess. With all the busy armor pieces I tried to keep the color scheme as simple as possible - VMC's GoldBrown, Pale Greyblue, and Hull Red.

Heavily glazed the face with a golden yellow to imply an Asian skin tone - I keep trying. Added a wood-grain effect on the bow to complicate matters.

Comments/suggestions welcomed.

Detail and blending work are awesome.

I think your camera has rosy colored lenses on it tho, cause it looks to red..

Very nice...it has an almost historical feel. I suppose it's just the color choices, which are very appropriate.

All those glazes seem to have flattened out the skin, but I can sympathize this the difficulty of Asian flesh tones.

I took the liberty of clearing it up a bit.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I agree with DChihorn about the image quality. My photo-fu is weak! The sum total of my photo skills include a couple different backdrops and clicking on a few PhotoShop presets. The gradient I used here has always caused strange color shifts with my camera. I should just toss that background into the garbage and be done with it.

In any case, here is Daidoji Kisu on a different backdrop with the same PhotoShop presets - honestly a monkey could replace me.

:0) - thanks for trying to salvage the image but I think the gradient just doesn't work for my camera.

Man, shouldnt throw away a backdrop on account of me.. I feel bad now..

Play with your camera some. I am going thru kinda hte same thing myself.

Play with the white level settings.

I thought that backdrop was pretty cgood myself. Simple, yet elegant type.. Enhances the mini...

Well, either way, the paintjob and your detail work are top notch and I am sure the benefactor of it will like it much.

That's a very nicely done piece. It actually spoke the word "wow" when I first saw it.

Great work, and even if your photo-fu is weak, your paint-fu is strong!

Great work, you have inspired me to get off my ace and paint up some Scorpions. Really excellent work.

The paintjob looks very good.

Something to check on your digital camera - does it allow manual white-balance settings? The reason your backdrop could be giving problems is this - the camera is trying to balance the light to get white and it ends up correcting for the actual blue color of the background, shifting the images towards red or orange. If you can manually set the white balance (by reading off of white paper), then the images will be truer.
