warlordgarou
Second post goes to me. Whee - I get the third. Ob Rage post - anyone thought about trying to write a RAEG ruleset for naval battles? And one for large armies? I really want to do a campaign that incorporates warlord, large armies and naval battles.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted January 11, 2005 Moderator Share Posted January 11, 2005 I've given thought to a naval system, though I'd like to see a 1/60-scale ships and boardng action thing instead. My problem is that I know nothing about sailing.
warlordgarou
Well, I could convert some of the rules from the GW General's Compendium and give it a try. I don't mind 28mm naval, but I also want to see large fleet actions. . . . Maybe I'll start building some ships in the next couple weeks. After all, I'd rather try it out with 3d ships, as opposed to card templates.

I guess it could be either with Warlord and CAV EDIT: maybe I should be reading more carefully next time
warlordgarou
When you do, share the plans, please. I'll do better. I'll make sure I take pics of each step, and post the whole thing somewhere.

I'll wait until the CAV novel comes out before trying to do any space navy stuff, since I'd hate to build a system that (fluff-wise). Although. . . aside from rules for wind, most should translate fairly well between the two. . . .
prophet118
now... would that be turn of the century warfare, pirates and all, or later.. or more modern stuff with aircraft carriers and all?
vejlin
Modern naval would be cool. Especially with carriers.

Well, since I would want to incorporate it into the Warlord universe, it would draw more heavily from the age of sail.
FPilot
Now this is where I start another SHIPS ARE BIG post... I have, as one of my eventual projects, a 1/150th scale frigate ship from Lindberg, the reknowned "Jolly Roger" a.k.a. "Flying Dutchman" a.k.a. "La Flore". I'll build it as "Jose Gasparilla" in the general scheme of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers mascot ships. Now this ship is small for a Napoleonic-era ship. There are much bigger ships--Ships of the Line--available as models too. But the hull is over a foot long, and this thing is packed with all sorts of detail parts. It's going to take me weeks to build. 1/60 (a.k.a. Heroic 25mm) scale is two and a half times the size! If I were making a "Jolly Roger" to that scale, it would take up at least half of a game table! They do NOT make display model kits of sailing ships that big let alone kits of modern ships. You can find PT Boats and things like that, or modern sailing yachts and motorboats, but that's totally different from what you want. I guess what you can do is go to a toy store and find a playset and mod it, but I don't know if that's going to satisfy you. Before I go, let me point you to a source for paper ship models. The site's in Italian, and the models are Polish, but you should be able to figure out what's involved. You can download the pattern files, print them out and assemble them yourself. GlidersUSA Paper Models Both the sailing ships there ("Dar" and "Opty") are more modern than pirate era, although the "Dar" can be dolled up some--it's a three-masted square-rigger and you'll probably only build its hull from the waterline up.
