vyeto
Hey all, I did this diorama for a friend as a housewarming gift...of course he moved in 2 years ago, but I think he'll appreciate it all the same. I took some pictures that showed off the painting better, but this one actually captures the mood/feel of the piece. I need to touch up some of the trees, but overall I'm quite pleased. -V
mrbuddylee
wow! that looks great! how much time was involved in putting that together?
Stern Kestrelmann
Looks good! Maybe a close-up or two! Otherwise, I love the stone work and tree line. SK
battleMountainminis
Oh, I love doing dio's...They're my favorite thing to come up with! That's a really cool one! I like the multi layering and the "mood" I'd love to see some more angles ...The figure on the top is kind of hard to see but it looks really cool...Really nice job on the stone work and texturing! Your friend is really going to appriciate it even tho he moved awhile ago.. I hope he's got a great "show off" spot for it ...it deserves it What a nice gift! vyeto
Thanks for all the compliments! It's hard to say how long it took to do since the bulk of the time was spent waiting for paint, varnish, or plastic water to dry. I'd say that if I had to do the whole thing over and with no interruptions, I'd have it in 2 days. I'll try to post more pictures sometime soon. Things I wish I'd done different: 1) Wish I was handy with NMM, but I think the metallics work okay here. 2) Could have done the individual figs a bit better, probably not my A-number-one best work, but they work fine as part of a diorama. 3) I love woodland Scenics products, generally speaking, but they have this brush-on adhesive for making trees that is just no good. I've done a lot of touch up on these trees and they're still not cutting it...the more I glue back on (now with zap-a-gap), the more fall off somewhere else! Anyhow, I'm sure I"m just being overly critical. Thanks for all the kindness and I'll try to post more tonight! -VTAM
amypaintsminis
Cool gift! What really stands out as cool to me is the water- I've tried a bunch of different kinds of 'water' products, but what did you use here?

The trick with the Woodland Scenic Foliage and Rubber-Cement is to be very very liberal with the glue and SQUEEZE the foliage until it feels really firm... (a few minutes)... the rubber-cement will penetrate enough foliage to hold it *fairly well*.... After it dries -> get a spray bottle and spray a diluted mix of PVA (Elmers) glue and Water on the foliage until it saturates into the foliage. Let it dry and repeat the spray bottle step one more time. It'll give you crunchy trees, but they'll last much longer. I could post piccies, but I think the only thing ya need is the PVA/Elmers step... Test it on one tree to see if you like it, eh?
