vejlin
Umm what were you using AR-15's for in the fire department ? Soccer goalkeeper glowes might work. They're made to be used outside, have great grip and don't interfere with the use of the hand at all. They might not be super expensive, but they should last you a long time. Ofcourse since soccer isn't a very common sport in the US they might be more expensive there.

Qwyksilver
Hey Qyk! I've got a pair of Soviet surplus tank-driver's gloves. They are cloth with suede palms, fuzzy-lined, and the ringy-finger and pinky-finger go in one single pocket..and they are such a luuuuuuurvely colour of lend-lease barf-green too. I had a pair in college that was a similar shade of green. I used to call em my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle gloves.
Wreckmaster
Of course, the best insulation available (and I have a lot of it) is simple body fat. I find that the cold does not effect me as bady as it does thin people. The Eskimos believe in adding a few pounds for the winter, so this is a good excuse to eat high calorie foods. And I am sure that there is some scientefic proof somewere that stats burning excess calories will keep you warmer.
TheFallen
Umm what were you using AR-15's for in the fire department ? I was in the USAF. When I was deployed to Bosnia we were issued weapons. We had to maintain them, and keep them clean and such. Winter in Bosnia is very messy, lots of snow, ice and sludge. Even though I was in the FD, we were still required to do perimeter walks and such. Clear it up for ya? Fallen
Almathea Toes
You could also try looking for the gloves that are half fingerless, but have a cover that's half sewn on that turns them into mittens. The cover velcros to the back of your hand when you need your fingers free. They're a type of thinsulate so they're pretty warm. If you can get them they should be at a sporting store, probably inthe camping or hiking section. THey may be gone though I haven't bought new mittens in four years. Mittens are always better than gloves for keeping warm. It's a shame you can't use them.
sniffles
I'm always cold at work too, though I work in an office. I wear exercise leggings underneath my pants. The finger thing is a bit more problematic, but there are handwarmers available, probably on clearance now, as well and convertible mitten/gloves. Isn't it sad that stores are already showing spring merchandise?
Enchantra
Isn't it sad that stores are already showing spring merchandise? Tell me about it. We started the Christmas to Spring conversion the week following Christmas. There are some things though you are glad to see go. Christmas stuff is one of those things. sniffles
I bought some handwarmers last winter while I was going through chemo (talk about being cold all the time!). I wish I had them right now. It's unseasonably warm here today but in the office I'm still freezing.
Jhulae
I have a nice reusable hand warmer. It's a soft gel with a little metal clicky thing in it, and once you click metal bit, the gel starts to solidify. It generates nice heat for a while (I forget exactly how long). The best thing is that all you have to do is pop it into boiling water for 10 minutes and it's back to soft gel again, ready to provide another usage of warmth. I'll try to remember to get the name of it when I get home.
Fizl
As an instant short term fix (although a bit sweaty), get some disposable gloves. Ask any nurse how hot their hands get when they re continuously wearing gloves! Obviously you cant wear them all day unless you want pruny fingers, but they may keep your fingers on your hands for a little while till you can get some mitten type things Shaz
Blackwolf
Drink heavily, I would suggest a decent brandy but most any booze will do. You wont actually be any warmer but you wont mind as much either.
Enchantra
Well since Kmart is across the street from where I work, I went over there this afternoon and found a pair of men's small brown work gloves. They aren't fingerless but the fabric is thin enough I might be able to still punch the numbers on the keypad. Even if the fabric isn't thin enough, I paid under $2 for them so if I cut off the fingertips and have my Mom around the ends so they don't fray that should work. Next step is when I get paid tomorrow to get better hikingboots to wear to work. The pair I currently wear I discovered has a HUGE hole where the shoe leather has separated from the sole. This would be why my feet have been getting wet for the past few weeks.
Buggeye
Not sure if this has been mentioned - but its easier to maintian temperature than to bring it up. Having said that, remember that 40% of body heat is lost through the top of your head. The answer could be as simple as putting on a warm hat. If your body isn't struggling to keep your brain from freezing it can shunt warm blood to the extremities.
Enchantra
Over the weekend I invaded Payless shoes. I bought a pair of Men's hiking Boots there. I actually paid less there than I would have at Kmart. My feet now stay nice and toasty and dry!
