Moderator Froggy the Great Posted February 8, 2005 Moderator Share Posted February 8, 2005 To be a retailer, you need a store and whatever licenses you need in whatever state you occupy. To be a BL rep, you need to have a store to play in. Sellers and BL reps are symbiotic, but are not generally the same person.
TankerJak
Ok, now I have a BL/Warlord question.... Can BL OPs sponsor gaming at a club/store/league/Con, play in said games, and play in the Balance of Power web campaign? Or can they only officiate? Lord Baasen
Do you mean doing do club/store/league/Con Demo? Just trying to clarify.
TankerJak
Well, I kind of separate demos and regular games in my mind. Thing is I am thinking of applying for Black Lightning because there doesnt seem to be anyone in the Kansas City area. But I really want to join in on the Balance of Power game and be able to play here and there. I wouldnt want my playing desires to compromise the Black Lightning position. But then again I may just be overthinking things.
Lord Baasen
Good question. You could always 'Altruist' the event if you choose to play in it for points. I seperate Black Lightning Demos/Events from Balance of Power. Another option is declare a Demo for the first half of your event and then have open gaming afterwards. Final word of course comes from Kit Pierce.
Ghost Rider
IIRC Spartan is around that area, give him a holler and see what happens He's played a game or two of CAV
TankerJak
Hmmmmm...1/2 Demo and 1/2 Open.... So simple I didnt see that one.....too long of a day already... Also I didnt mean that I would use demos for BoP. I just meant say if we wanted to run a few games at our FLGS (and/or club) for BoP, Could I sponsor said games (need someone to sponsor them) and still play in them? I dont want to break any rules or even seem like I want to bend any. If I were to represent Reaper I would want to do a good job and not give anyone the wrong ideas. Lord Baasen
Nope you're not breaking any rules if you are the sponsor and you're playing in the games.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted February 9, 2005 Moderator Share Posted February 9, 2005 I report my BL events on Reapergames, but I don't generally report my demos there.
airhead
agree with Frosh. When I am demoing Warlord, I do not count those games. When I am playing my hated enimies (good freinds) - those games count if my opponent has joined. And when I am playing a game for points, I don't turn them in as demos. Col. Turkish
I am thinking about becoming a member of BL since there is no BL member within Portland OR, I know there is one in Central Point but most people do not even know where that is. Most of the games played are Games Workshop and I would like to see a little variety. Is there any advice, lessons, horror stories, etc. about being a BL? Moderator Froggy the Great Posted February 9, 2005 Moderator Share Posted February 9, 2005 Lots and lots. You're probably better off asking specific questions.
Col. Turkish
Let's see, how about how do you run your demos? Different methods, pros/cons for each one.
Lord Baasen
When running a game in a den of Warhamsters, never be the first one to compare or contrast with their beloved game. Allow the person asking to do that. You will probably get the question "Why would I want to start up a new game?". Be prepared to answer a lot of questions on playability, mechanics and support. Kelcore and I will go into the shop, set up the table and wait for people to walk by and look at the miniatures. Be open and approachable to the people. The models will be what attracts them to the game, you have to hold their interest. Hope this helps.
Col. Turkish
Which armies are good to demo with? I assume the starter box with the rulebook, tape measure, cards, miniatures, etc included would be the best to start with as it promotes that particular boxset as well. Do you ever run multiple player games or just one on one?
