Willybob
I think it's just 3 events period. Even though I do one every Saturday. Because....I.... ....am the man!
TankerJak
Ok Thanks! Sorry for starting another thread, at work and brain jumbled, forgot there was one. [Edit after nap] Which is kinda dumb seeing as I titled the new thread Return of Black Lightning Question.......*sigh* brains are a terrible thing and must be stopped before they hurt someone. Erion
Of the black lightning kits in the Online store, which would you recommend the most for a speed painting competition? We're letting everyone bring their own paints, brushes, etc. Would you say its just easier to order a dozen or so of the same figure than get one of the kits? Kellyn
It's entirely up to you, really. There used to be a Speed Painting Figure Kit with 10 minis, which I would definitely recommend; however, the only figure pack in the Event Support link right now is the Paint and Take pack, which will give you 6 of 2 figures, so if you get more than 6 people you'll have to judge dissimilar minis. It depends on what you want, really. I've previously done the SPFK, but without that, it'd be easier to just pick the one I want and up the quantity. Cost is the same. If you need paint, I'd suggest using the kits, it's just easier than having to manually pick a dozen or two random colors. Unless you're specificially wanting to try a limited palatte, in which case, pick them individually. Over all, the way these things work well is best determined by the person running it (You.) Good luck! I hope your contest goes well. Don't forget to take pictures of the winning minis! Jess
ladystorm
I find it works best to have everyone start on equal footing. I use two of the speed painting paint sets for a total of six paint sets. I provide new cheap brushes, usually 3 for a $1 at a craft store. I order one set of Paint and Take figures which gives me two sets of six identical, enough for two rounds of a speed paint. however they are random minis. if you know you want to do a specific figure, specifically order that one. I find the typical tables that you encounter at public functions (cons) are not large enough to hold more than six people comfortably. I could ask for more tables, but that has caused problems before so I cap at six participants. I had an interesting idea to try for a CAV speed paint. Decreasing size and time. 30 min for a smaller CAV, 20 for a vehicle/aircraft, 10 for infantry. Perhaps the stipulation that they all have to coordinate in the end. Just a thought, have yet to try it, likely will on April 9th at the New England Invitational.... cher
FreeFall
Over the last couple years I've built up a paint and take/speed paint kit that has paitn and brushes for everyone to use if they choose. I then order the Speed Paint Figure kit, which like Kellyn said is 10 figures. You never know what you are going to get, but that's half the fun for me. It's like opening a christmas present. The kit is definitely the way to go, I think. Those prebuilt BL kits just make our lives easier.
Marlfox
So I tried registering with Black Lightning like two weeks ago and have yet to get a responce. Did I do something incorrect or has my application just not been cleared yet? Please let me know ASAP. I have already run 3 demos, and will run another tomorrow. DETHSTRYKER
Here's my thing. I want to be a Black Lightning member. I want to be envolved with Reaper as much as i can be. I am a big fan of Warlords and the CAV universe (most notably AICOM but like everything about CAV too). I want to be a part of the BL's. I am totally enthusiastic about everything RAGE (or soon to be). But HERE is my problem. I live in a fairly large city of about 2 million people. The last gaming store is closing tho... Please read the thread i posted above. They were huuuge REAPER supporters and had about 50% of their stock in Reaper products. Now they are no more. I wont have a hobby store to demo at. Do i still qualify? Or am i an extreme enthusiast that is SOL and Doomed to being all alone and on the outside...?

DETHSTRYKER
well, if you reread my post i stated that i have NO (ZERO) hobby/gaming stores to demo or push products at. That's why i was asking if there is anything else i could do. I can meet every requirement other then push product (no place to do that) or demo (no gaming store) unless out of home demos count. Is there anything else i can do for Reaper?
Kellyn
Are there any regularily scheduled conventions in your area or areas close enough for you to get to them? We're in the Rochester, NY area, and for a weekend con, we could drive as far as 6 hours in any direction, which would give us (estimate) a con a month. Also consider things like Fantasy, sci-fi and Book cons; while not specifically gaming related, there's often at least a game room that people can set up in. What is your personal goal in becoming a BL member? If it's simply to help out Reaper, maybe you could talk to Cher and become some kind of assistant... do mini prepping for major cons that Reaper goes to... or anything else they need... (I dunno, I'm brainstorming). If your goal is to get other people to play Reaper games with you, that wouldn't help you though. With no gaming stores around, it does seem a lot more complicated. I'd also suggest trying to find out where any other gamers you know would buy their stuff and go there... I know that some people run demos in comic book shops and other stores that aren't directly gaming related. And then there might be stores like Games by James, which is mostly board games, but they might let you do stuff if they were able to carry a small amount of stock. *ponder* Just a few ideas. I'll speak up if I think of anything else. Jess
ladystorm
again merged all the current threads into one. Deth: for specific questions and answers it would probably be best to write an email to [email protected] instead of posting them here. tatsu
I'm going to fire off a bunch of questions that may be general. Anything too specific, I will message BL Boss. Reaper (hobbies in general) are not too famous in New Jersey where I reside. My flgs carries a limited (pathetic) set of Reaper that I hope to expand through being a BL member. I intend to do flgs and club Warlord game demos. To get the BL discount to build my mini collection for demos, I have to already have 3 demos under my belt? Is that correct? Two - Four armies may be too expensive for me to start. To entice my flgs with potential customers, I was going to heavily advertise in my college (Rutgers University). My hopes are to start an official club. If I started a club, would publicly advertised games count as demos if they're outside of a flgs? Like, in someone's house? I believe this is 2.C in the Handbook, but I was not sure of the operational definition of "League Events." Is the BL point reward system based upon the number of participants viewing your demo? I hope my questions were clear enough. Any response would be appreciated. Including a Bonk! for not sending this to BL Boss. I didn't want to flood his account with general questions. ladystorm
To get the BL discount to build my mini collection for demos, I have to already have 3 demos under my belt? you need to have enough stock to perform the demo before you gain rewards. each report you submit you receive points. in theory, it is possible that after your first demo you have points to spend before your second demo. Is the BL point reward system based upon the number of participants viewing your demo? viewing a demo is not enough. people have to actively participate to be claimed as attendees. Yes, there are per attendee points that are added to the base activityvalue. I didn't want to flood his account with general questions. but that is what it is for. I specifically avoided answering the League/Club question at this time. There are a few edits to the program underway and I don't want to give you incorrect or about to be erroneous information. cher
