Painting Units & New CAV Environment

Recommended Posts

I have been hanging around some of the discussions of the New CAV Edition coming "soon", and trying to decide how to go about organizing and painting the 30+ CAVs waiting in my painting queue, in order to minimize the disruption when the new game format comes out this summer.

The best description that I have found so far is shown below:

Factions: I think by now that we all know the game is moving towards alliegences with governments. The two sides in the 2nd Galaxy War will remain the same as in the first (Ritterlich/Adon/Malvernis vs. Rach/Templar/Terran), but even allies won't be getting along all that well. You will be able to play as a Freelancer unit in Tournament play tho (IE you can use any model, but don't get any faction bonuses) or a Merc in campaign play.

I am the only player in my area and have painted the forces that I have as a Mercenary type unit, with about 2/3 in one color scheme and 1/3 in another scheme (to be used as an internal training opponent or general opponent since nobody else is supplying figures for the game). I have not really differentiated the sides by faction (either UCOR or Government). Will this continue to work, or am I going to need to rethink the organization more along Faction lines?

Hoping for a heads-up from somebody more in the know than I,

Thanks

Welcome to the boards Grey. ::):

As you've read you'll be able to continue playing a mercenary unit or "freelancer" in tournament play with the loss of faction-specific Special Attributes. I would suggest however looking really closely at a faction army. You could do a straight racial army too, Rach, Terran, Ritterlich etc.

Even for the specific factions there really is no "official" paint jobs. One of the things you've probably noticed is that Reaper is really easygoing when it comes to things like that. Fighting Piranha Graphics makes some really nice CAV decals too. For the most part CAV players don't care what your CAV's look like either. Not everyone can paint like Jen Haley or Anne Foerster. ::):

My two cents worth is to paint them however appeals to you. Heck, one of the best CAV players out there paints flowers *shiver* on her CAV's.

Have you downloaded CAV-RC? It's a tremendous tool for organizing your forces and best of all it's completely free. CAV-RC Using that you can make up all kinds of force lists and save them so you can organize and re-organize your models at will with minimal effort.

I hope that answered your questions. If it didn't I understand, I'm still working on my first cup of coffee.

Welcome to our addiction. ::):

If you want to build a faction specific army, yes you'll need to re-organize your models. I don't know if you're following what's going on at CAVHQ right now, but the UCOR Wars are being played out there. Several of the larger UCORs are duking it out in the open, which will lead the governments to eventually reign them in. The results are that each faction will only have access to models from the UCOR's it chartered.

Adon has RMI and Borsig-Spline,

Terrans have SyRaM and Mitso-Ta

Malvernis has Grundor House and Mark IV

Ritterlich have KDM and a brand new UCOR

Templars have Hughes-Marietta (ursuped from the Adonese) and another new UCOR

and the Rach have KODA Works all by itself.

So, if you wanted to build a Terran Task Force (the new term for an army) you could only have models from M-T and SyRaM. Don't worry though, there'll be some new models for every faction, so that they're all balanced and each one has at least one model to fit every battlefield role.

I found myself asking the same questions when CAV 2 was announced.

I had just placed a big order for what at the time was to be an independant Terran Brigade comprised mostly of Syram and KODA hardware. I decided to use KODA instead of Mitso-Ta because I liked the models much better and needed to fill some holes Syram couldn't fill alone.

When CAV 2 was announced I decided to concentrate on a faction specific Terran army composed of Syram and Mitso-ta augmented by the considerable amount of KODA gear I already had painted.

My future plans are to paint all my Terran and KODA models in the same scheme allowing me to play a faction specific Terran force, KODA force, or a combination of the two.

The rest of the 20 or so odd ball models I have floating around will form the core of either a Pirate or Mercenary unit fielding whatever units they feel like.

One of the things I really like about CAV is there's no real wrong way to go about army composition. If you want to go Pirate ,Merc, etc... there really isn't that big of handicap. If you want to go faction specific you'll gain a few special abilities. If not you can choose whatever models you want.

As far as paint goes anything goes. Some like their forces painted to a standard scheme while others paint each individual unit in a different garb. It's all really up to the player.

for those of you with mixed forces going forward You can still paint up all your Koda works gear to be a Terran faction, you just will be unable to use any of the terran faction special abilities. But your force could quite easily represent a pre Galaxy war unit stocked full of hardware that was bought before it was made by the enemy.

You would still play your games fighting for the glory of your faction, just with out the benefits of a all faction outfitted unit.

That's for all of you Terran pansies who don't like the Thunderbird and would rather use a Man's CAV like the Rhino.

Which just happens to be made in my home state of Schwarzenwald. :poke:

Wow that sucks. I have finally settled on the Rach as my Fighting Force. So i can only choose from KODA? You mean i cant get a Rhino or anything else of that nature? You mean i dont have my own Super Chasis? And i am going to die... That sucks. Good thing i havent placed that big order yet...
