Erion
We had our bi-weekly store events meeting last night, and the owner brought up that he wants to build some terrain and tables that are uniquely Warlord, as opposed to just recycling the terrain of other games/companies. Does anyone have any suggestions for building styles/terrain features that would help to differentiate a Warlord Table from a table built for Some other company's Fantasy Battle game? Mengu
All I can think of is doing some faction specific features. A Crusader theme table could be a village with a temple in the center, and the temple would be adorned with Crusader iconography. For a Reptus theme, you could build a swamp, with an oriental monastry. Or for a Nefsokar theme, you can go with egyptian features. Reven - tents, henges Dwarves - underground stonework Elves - Woods Mercs - City, Docks Darkspawn - natural caverns, stalagmites Nefsokar - graveyards Overlords - like Crusaders except with Malvernis symbols, slave dens, etc. Some of this is pretty stereotypical of course, you can spice it up as you see fit... Akela
Well depends on what you're trying to do. Build a "generic" taltain scene or something a little more army specific? For general "mood and feel" the architecture of Moorish Andalusian Spain was used as the primary inspiration for the native Taltain and their villages. Matt, could you have picked a harder style of architecture to replicant? Oh wait, there's always Tai. or the Russian Onion Domes. Stubbdog
My answer is, terrain is easy to build, just gotta be willing to put in the time to do it. It can be as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be. My 6x8 fot table that I posted a pic of recently (more pics soon) cost me about $75 if I remember correctly. That might sound like a lot, but I think it came out great and I have enough left over supplies that I could easily make changes or additions to it for little to no more cost. And obviously you dont have to go for a full 6x8 like I did. Lots of people prefer to make modular 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4 boards that are similar enough in terrain style (uses the same flocking for example) that they can mix and match, move things around, etc.. Hexxenhammer
Matt, could you have picked a harder style of architecture to replicant? Oh wait, there's always Tai. or the Russian Onion Domes. And the Reptus are basically Thai. I was actually doing some research to make some Reptus terrain. I wanted more than a swamp. Thai pagodas seem to be bell shaped. This looks easier to me than chinese or japanese pagodas.
Erion
True enough. You can even get cheap bell-shaped stuff at craft store pretty easily. Foam and cheap plastic mostly.
Hexxenhammer
I just noticed that the first pagoda is supported by elephant carvings. How cool would it be to have a Reptus pagoda supported by Krungbeasts? Cost prohibitive, but cool...
efkelley
Nefsokar would be more along the lines of Egyptian tombs. Meaning, a hole in the ground, likely covered over with natural stone. They don't advertise where the tombs are because of the very real danger of defilers and robbers.

Would anyone happen ot have some linkage to pics of this sort of architecture? I'm trying to form a picture in my weebrain, but nothing comes up other than scenes from "Gladiator". Hexxenhammer
Some Moorish architecture in Alhambra, Spain. So, stucco tiles roofs, thin columns, and lots of arches.
Spike
Steve and I wanted to build some Taltain terrain too, but we had different notions of what the architecture would be. He invisioned something vaguely Middle-Easters in style, whereas I pictured something a bit more like TiaJuana. I like the pics Hexxenhammer posted, but WHOA we'll be spending alot of time with the HirstArts moulds won't we :) The Alhambran architecture reminds me of why I think Atlanta's Fox Theatre is the coolest building in the whole city. Meanwhile, we've set up some Nefsokar (i.e. Egyptian) terrain, complete with pyramids and a sphynx.

Not quite the same effect but easier on the pocket. Or there is always buying hundreds of that little elephant mini for a good cause. Hexxenhammer
Plastic dinosaurs are a great idea. Time for a trip to the dollar store.

That theater looks like a great reference. That's exactly the style.
