Sergei
Here's a question that I've mulling over for a while. Can flying APC (like the Badger or Hedgehog)be dropped from orbit like small dropships? If not, What about from high alitude? It mentions in JOR 1 under the Badger fluff that "miliatary units use a Badger drop to braek in new recruits". I've always envisioned the flying APC as flying and use like current helocopters. They can fly higher but the only porpose it (flyng high)serves is to make your Badger into a skeet for every AA and SAM battery in area to pratice with. As such, I see Badgers being dropped in high altitude and dropping to the basement as fast as possible. Sounds like a wild ride.
Erion
You've got it pretty much right. The CAV2 beta currently includes rules for orbital insertions of gunships during the game.
jhilahd
Cool. ***Threadjack*** What about CAV insertions? Drop ships or drop-pods? That would be cool. Orbital insertions... very cool.
Erion
There was a Dropship special attribute posted in the CAV 1.1 Beta thread a week or two ago. It allowed a model to carry a number of other models based on their sizes. No models that use it currently appear in the test. However, there is always the Hercules. See the bottom of the page for pics.
Chrome
Hedgehogs and Badgers use Anti-Grav engines, so they can fly as high as they want to.
Erion
Actually, the hedgehog is MClass Hover, so it doesn't really fly.
Chrome
Really? 'Cause I'm reading my printed rulebook and it says on page 83 The 5E is equipped with an anti-grav system and is pressurized to allow for a low orbit entry into a planet's atmosphere. This was a fluff question afterall, not a game mechanics one.
Erion
yeah, but, not being a gunship, the hedgehog can't use the aforementioned orbital insertion upgrade. I'm just sayin, is all.
ixminis
However, there is always the Hercules. See the bottom of the page for pics. I'm seriously considering getting a friend to cut this out of wood for me so I can have a very permanent version of it.... He owes me some woodwork (for painted minis)... Real cabinets first... Hercules 2nd... maybe... if I'm lucky Rgds,
Chrome
That would be one heavy gaming prop! Now if someone would just build one out of sheet metal, that'd be a sight to see!
