CAV BETA Unit/Troop Question

In Warlord, we have troops and Leaders/Warlords/Sargents/Lt's.

Are there structures like this in CAV?

I have a Leader, then X amount of troops that follow? Or is there one command force, and all units with Radio's are under their control?

I'm not sure I'm asking this correctly.

Does this make sense?

because it deals with a larger-scale force, CAV is organized a bit differently.

You have Primary Platoons and Secondary Platoons. Each platoon Type (there are 8 right now) has a specific mission role, and what can be placed into each platoon is clearly defined. For example, an armor platoon is CAV's and/or tanks, mechanized infantry is APC's filled with troops, and Rifle Platoons are footslogging infantry. Each platoon has a defined number of models that can/must be included with it

The standard force allows you to take one secondary platoon for each primary platoon. Several of the Faction special abilities in the CAV2 1.1 Beta thread change the rules for force organization, however.

I hope this helps. I don't want to give specific numbers, etc. But if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks, Erion. It does help.

I am still curious about Leadership. I was asking because if your leader/primary unit gets taken down are there discipline checks for your troops morale. Or better, I guess, are the specific leaders within your platoons for this version CAV.

I understand troop types with specific functions. But leaders? Heroes? Since CAV2 is a larger scaled version of the Warlord RAGE system, I was curious about morales and breaking opponents by taking out tactically specific units.

Thanks again.

There are lots of Game mechanics that cause shaken tokens and discipline checks. The Beta rules has some Special abilities for leader-type models, but currently none of those are in use. I think Matt said something about Faction books having hero models in one of his Beta posts.

Discipline relies on unit coherency (which is much greater in CAV than in Warlord, thanks to Radio communications) and certain battlefield conditions. Right now you can't make a platoon tactically paralyzed by taking out one model.

Honestly, I like it that way. This is a futuristic military game. There's a chain of command to be followed. The army isn't going to fall apart because they lose a command assest. There are actions in the game specifically designed to reduce a unit's ability to make leadership checks, which can ultimately cause them to flee the battlefield if conditions are right.

Of course, that's not to say that you couldn't cripple an opponent's battle plan by taking out models that are important to it, and the last model in a platoon always feels somewhat abandoned...

Awesome.

Thanks, that helps.

Yeah, it stinks to be the last unit.

::o:

One more quick question. What about customizing units? Pilots and WO's, do we still have the option to purchase them at higher abilities? i.e. Green, Veteran, Ace-that sort of thing? If you can't tell me, that's cool too.

Thanks again.

Yeah, but didn't he say that they were for replaying specific scenarios only? Like recreating a specific engagement during the Galaxy War.

I got the impression you wouldn't be able to show up at a tournament and use one of them.

I really like this new setup. Infact it's how i was going to do my Rach force for CAV1. I like it more and more every day...
