Product Review Board

I was thinking maybe we could add a sub-board strictly for product reviews. I think half of the hobby is having, or knowing, which tools to use, and which to avoid. People could try a product, post thier results and others can dispute, agree, ask questions, and such. Maybe it could be a product and technique board. Allowing us to post new uses or ways to do things as well.

Anyone agree, disagree?

Alright, it sounds like a great idea.

BUT...

Reaper has to keep their best interests in mind when they are running this board. Say we get a section on product reviews and someone who works for the manufacturer of said products comes onto these boards and reads nasty reviews of their product they feel are untrue. Well several things could happen:

1) They ignore it.

2) They get an account here and post about the product themselves.

3) They get really upset, consider the postings to be slander against their company and they get on Reaper's butt to remove the postings and threaten to sue Reaper. This threatens Reaper's image and also sets a bad standard. Reaper does not usually endorse or not endorse any specific products other than their own for the sole reason it could get them into hot water. Having a sub-board to post product reviews on could be bad news for Reaper, even if the people making the posts are not Reaper employees.

The unfortunate thing is #3 has more likelyhood of happening than the other two.

Even with a Review forum, you're still going to have to search to find the specific product information you are looking for. What sense is there in making a new forum, when a quick search in the existing ones will produce the same information.

Use Search. It is your friend.

I agree with Qwyksilver.

Yahoo and Google are great for reviews on products. I don't think there's any need to have a dedicated section here.

Unless it was likes, dislikes, and suggestions about Reaper products, but that already happens in the Reaper Discussion section. Again, easily findable through the search function.

I figure with people talking about products of different lines, that this purpose is already fulfilled in some degree with the "General" sections.

I agree with all of you, searches, and other forums do the job. But a new forum would be a bit more convient and would do a better job, and be much, much more helpful. When you do a search for say primer, or a specific primer, you get a ton of false hits, and then you have to wade through them all.

I hadn't thought of the other company's posting though. I still think it's a good idea though, searching through the boards, or the web, can be such a MAJOR pain to find good reviews of products.

Just my two cents.

Well of course, it's easy to find stuff on the internet. But that would be missing the point, it's more about having the reviews all in one place, done by the folks you trust (reaper forum peeps) and with a chance to give you own opinion. From my experience, I believe the members of this board are among the most unbiased ones to be found online.

I'd like to have a dedicated product-review section too. Just my two platinum coins (20 gp)

As for Enchantra's third point -> I do believe WOTC minis are as good as toilet papers if they were a little bit softer. *runs off before WOTC laywers come looking for him*
