haldir
not anther a stereotypical old bearded wizard with a pointy hat!!!! normally I don't care but with this one & then the other old fart that just came out, we need a more vareity of wizard minis!!!! Yah younger ones mean oh he can't be powerful, but come on!!! if I play a wizard in a D&D game (hey I recall that game somehow) I usually make a younger wizard, maybe 20s or 30s but no over the hill "gandalf" type. WE NEED A BIGGER VARIETY!!!! sorry for the rant--this one just came out, is why I'm a little upset Torm Goldentome, latest pointy old fart wizard mini ok back to normal Randy M
Enchantra
OK Haldir, please take a deep breath. Count to ten. Now convert a mini into a wizard you want and keep hoping something creative comes along.
spiritual_exorcist
I was actually going to reply and second the fact that I think there are far too many of these old men mages being produced. But when I thought about it I honestly think the majority of them are in the older Dark Heaven lines (2600 and older). THere are only 4 oldie mages in the 2700-2900 range: 2700: Toxanimar (At least he doesn't have a hat :) 2771: Lorus Hightower 2905: Arthur Wanderhat 2913: Torm Goldentome (I really dislike the sculpt, and would be more likely to complain about Reaper producing it for that reason, than because it is an oldie mage) There seem to be decent number of young mages and sorcerers coming out (Granted alot of them, like Olivia the halfling mage, arn't human). At least we got the Conjurer recently, he'll make a nice low-level young PC mage. Still all and all I'll second the motion, let's see less guys like this, and more PC mage/sorcerer types. Adventuring equipment, scrolls, books, simple staffs, X-Bows etc, the things a low level mage is likely to carry. Although I'll be the first to admit there are some great mages in the Reaper line, I think ones that could be used as entry level characters would be really interesting. In the mean time, i'd suggest the following for people looking for PC mages: 2510: Balto Burrowell 2541: Darbin The Deadly 2562: Gossamer, Air 2563: Arilynn, Water 2621: Laurana, Sorceress 2667: Sprig Sorethumb 2707: Odum, Dwarf Wizard 2810: Hyrekia, Elf Sorceress 2682: Selmarina, Witch 2831: Olivia, Fem Halfling 2829: Bertrand, Monk 2835: Jolie, Fem Scribe 2836: Piers, Young Mage 2873: Arran Rabin, Conjuror 14022: Lysette 14046: Ardynn, Elf Ftr Mage 61003: Arianna
Digital M@
This guy kind of reminds me of Dumbledor. You can make a diorama with him and the Harry Potter sculpt from Spyglass.
ixminis
Yah, if pointy hatted wizards are your bane, I can see why ya don't like 'em. While I personally like the figure, here are some options: Cut the tip of the hat off & file until he is bald... add or don't add hair... if one wanted him to be really funky; give him a mo-hawk.... whoo hooo!!! Okee, maybe a little bit odd... or maybe just a different kind of hat... a baseball cap? Maybe that's a little too Piers Anthony though.... I digress,
Neyuttad
This guy kind of reminds me of Dumbledor. You can make a diorama with him and the Harry Potter sculpt from Spyglass. ...and Dumbledor reminds me of Gandalf who in my opinion is the archtypical wizard. I agree, we could use some variety. JoeGKushner
More wizards in the apprentice mode might not be a bad thing. I'd personally like to see more fighter mages.
Ironwulf
Cut the tip of the hat off & file until he is bald... add or don't add hair... if one wanted him to be really funky; give him a mo-hawk.... whoo hooo!!! How about just cutting the top of the hat off and making it a Fez?
Reaperbryan
MAN! Not another Wizard with a FEZ!!! I see one more of those and I'll scre . . . wait. I've enver seen one. Nevermind. Nothing to see here. Move along.
haldir
Cut the tip of the hat off & file until he is bald... add or don't add hair... if one wanted him to be really funky; give him a mo-hawk.... whoo hooo!!! How about just cutting the top of the hat off and making it a Fez? yah but that still leaves the old man with a beard & with a fez on All I'm sayin is there is more than 1 look for a wizard, unless at Fantasy-mart that all they have in the wizard dept. Morgan Devalis
JUst remember, if it stresses you out that much, two deep breaths and a shot of schnapps. If that does not work, try two shots of schnapps and one deep breath. Then try converting it. Oh, and be careful not to glue or pin yourself to the mini. battleMountainminis
I personally like this sculpt I think there are a ton of figures that can be converted...look at Exaulted lady of darkness...smooth out her dress and add a book or familiar and you're good to go Check out some different lines and let the creative juices flow Yes, most wizards are old and gray but they had to work a long time to reach wizard status unless you're at Hogwarts then it's only 7 years unless they want to continue their educations and become Aurors or something. I personally would love to see some older female witches that resemble Prof. McGonagal instead of the young sexpots with the bare midriffs and puckering lips. though they're fun once and awhile. I really like Prof. McGonagal.. she's got class. Well there's my 2 cents
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted March 16, 2005 Moderator Share Posted March 16, 2005 Why does this mini have to be old? I don't think it comes with the hair painted white. A 30 year-old who had never cut his beard could have a long beard. You don't seem to think that all dwarves are old just because they have beards. His hat is a bit weird, but has nothing to do with his age. Paint him whatever age you want. TS
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted March 16, 2005 Moderator Share Posted March 16, 2005 There was a theory posted once that it took a long long time for men to learn the arts of magic, so one was naturally old and grey by the time one could go adventuring. Women, however, just needed the magic spark, and magic flowed out of their very pores. Clothing, um, would block the, um, magic.
