my very small $0.02 on this subject.

I have only bought my first couple of Warlord figs lately and have not played a game yet. But, am trying to learn the rules for when it is time.

I personally like the 1st two ideas given the most. My thoughts related:

1. Introducing new warlords - I like this idea for a simple and probably dumb reason, but it holds true all the same. I love the Overlord minis as a whole, but I hate the Warlord Liche for that faction (strictly from a miniature point of view). To have the ability to choose from a couple of different Warlords would be great, so that I didnt have to take him.

2. Introducing the "Writ of Command" - Another great idea. This would open up the ability to bring in some of the awesome DHL or Exalted based minis for more than just "generic" units.

Writ of Command would probably be best used for people in a Warlord Campaign, where there is an ongoing storyline, and the concept of a Sgt moving up the ranks because he has survived and led troops to victory would make sense. You could have the writ set a new point cost to the figure, and possibly improve their basic figures by giving them an additional damage track with improvements of +x. across the board for the data card.

I would like to chime in:

@ Abngi: let me address 2 of them specifically

Suggestion 4 - A Scenario involving 1001+ pts but specifying "No Warlord" is certainly possible, and anybody who wants to may post one at ReaperGames, or submit it to CasketWorks for possible inclusion in a future issue.

Writ of Command - Certainly, the idea of a Writ of command sounds useful. It would Very Easily work as a scenario rule - Field Promotion: For this scenario you will select 2 elites to be granted "Sgt 4-10/0", and 1 Sgt to be granted "Captain 3-10/1" or 1 Captain to be granted "Warlord 3-11/2" etc, etc. etc. Modify the above, and expand the scenario to include more than just that, as you will.

BL members - be aware that although we discourage house rules - for BL events we encourage Scenarios, even homewritten scenarios. Give this a shot, see how it changes things.

Realize that almost every argument on these forums can be applied in a Scenario - Giving Scenario designers a chance to twist the rules they dislike and try them new ways. Playing the scenario gives you a chance to test the rules in real conditions. If you guys have a scenario that sets things up in a way you like, run it a lot, incorporate parts of it into new scenarios, and submit all of them to ReaperGames or to CasketWorks.

Oh, and one final thing: Don't be afraid to post ideas, concerns, and feedback here. We won't reply to every thread. We won't automatically rush out to make every suggestion a new rule. But trust me, we read every single one of them. We want to know what we are doing well, and what we are doing not so well.

1. Introduce lower-powered (and lower-priced) Warlords in the faction books.

Pros: new models, more flexibility, removes the similarity of same-faction armies.

Cons: would be over a year away for some factions.

I dealt with suggestions 2 & 4 already. How about This one? It's answered in the above link.

A great start, but doesn't deal with the negatives for whoever is the last one to get a faction book.

...chances are even the last army out book-wise will have new warlords to use before their books hit the shelves.

Partial use, anyway. Innate: Draining Touch, for example, won't have rule text until the month of the scheduled faction book release. Having the minis a month before the faction book is some consolation, but not much of one when it changes the final fix-time from 15 months to 14 months.

Back on topic, the preceeding simply underscores the need for at least an interim fix. Scenarios won't cut it, as they are at the disgression of the organizer. Faction books won't cut it if you are the last one scheduled.

Just chiming in here to say that I would really appreciate the ability to upgrade a Captain to a Warlord, for a different reason.

I'm interested in running an all-Bladesister army, with Nicole in command.

Most of it would be easy - the Bladesister stats are for the veteran soldiers, other mercenary troop stats and female figures for grunts (I presume the Bladesisters, despite the name, would have archers, spearwomen and other kinds of troops in their company rather than having it be a one-trick pony - and that Nicole would know more than enough strategy to realise that a one-trick-pony force is a VERY BAD IDEA), perhaps use some of the generic stat blocks for lesser officers/NCOs... but I REALLY want to keep Nicole as C-in-C of the Bladesisters, and therefore to have her as a Warlord.

Hey, as a matter of fact... would it be possible to put an all-Bladesisters army as an option when the Mercenary faction book comes out?

And while we're on the subject, how about doing a mounted Nicole figure, and other female cavalry? (I'm not sure if you remember my bemoaning of the lack of female mounted warrior figures back in the Minis You'd Like to See thread, but I figure it won't hurt to repeat myself here)

Okay, it would be as easy as adding a "new item" to the Errata page:

Writ of Command

Category: Item

Point Cost: 5

Bonus: Special

Notes: Only Leader models may purchase a Writ of Command.

For purposes of company composition, a Leader with the Writ of Command fulfills the requirement to field a Warlord in Fighting Companies of 1001+ points. A Leader with the Writ of Command does not fulfill the requirement to field a Warlord when fielding 3+ Captains.

Or, almost as easy, just publish a character (the stats are straight from the Generic Captain):

command.jpg

and a new Special Ability:

Command

For purposes of company composition, a Model with Command fulfills the requirement to field a Warlord in Fighting Companies of 1001+ points. A Model with Command does not fulfill the requirement to field a Warlord when fielding 3+ Captains.

A Model with Command is considered to have the same Affiliation as the player's declared faction.

Alternatively (and better in the long run), add "Aligned" as an affiliation that means "same as the player's declared faction" and remove the last sentence from SA: Command.
