Reaper User Talin Posted May 4, 2005 Reaper User Share Posted May 4, 2005 Just keep in mind that the sculptors can only get a certain level of detail on a figure before it starts looking less like detail, and more like sloppy greenwork... Salonka may have just replaced me as #1 cause of self-inflicted severe head trauma in sculptors. ^_~/ But man, they look so cool... Realistically, there's sometimes quite a bit of difference between the concept art and the final sculpt. That's why you only see some of the sketches (unless, of course, you happen to be down for ReaperCon...)
Qwyksilver
I'm definitely looking forward to that opportunity in 2 weeks
Morgan Devalis
OH, OWWWW!!! Sure, rub in the inability of those unable to go to Reapercon. I'll just be sobbing quietly into a corner, waiting for my chance to harvest organs for sale on E-Bay in order to (perhaps) have a shot at ggetting a Cowgirl Sophie miniature to save from Qwiksilver's reven casting plans. Kheprera
I hear Livers have the best resale value. Not if you're female.
Qwyksilver
Well, with females, you need a nice Chianti to woo them too, so it cuts into the profit margin.
Spartan6
Well, with females, you need a nice Chianti to woo them too, so it cuts into the profit margin. And some fava beans

Cade
I hear Livers have the best resale value. Not if you're female. Not if you're Irish either. I think I have the liver of a 50 year old alcoholic.
Madzerker
While I like the new artists ideas and posing a lot, Talin is still in my opinion one of the best artists out there for concept art. Still looking forward to the Talin art book for sale with all the concept art in it.

Mourningcloud
wow- someone actually read my whole message! (i really gotta learn to write briefer messages-maybe thats why its not called a dissertation-board) nah talin-no replacing ya, although i do like the virtual breath of fresh air his heroic characters have brought to this hobby of ours. that is what pushes us (and the hobby) to grow, no? and actually it wasnt the level (or rather lack of) of detail that i was disappointed in, it was the way the uber-cool, "I-may-be-an-elf-mage-but-i-damn-well-wear-pants-and-riding-boots-not-sissy-robes" character of the drawing was utterly lost in translation to greeny goodness. even the "I'm-confident-enough-to-square-up-and face-you-head-on-whilst-casting arcane-nastyness-in -your-general-direction" pose of the drawing was abandoned in favor of a more traditional 3/4 stance. oh well-we dont always gets what we wants, do we my precious. This has been another mourningcloud dissertation wherein i have said, as usual, too much.
Kheprera
While I would love a Talin artbook, as far as I know it's still in the wishful thinking phase. And I think Talin's work is better, to be honest. To me, while the pictures are quite good, the heads all look too small in relation to everthing else.
Trav
I would love to get a Talin art book too, his stuff is amazing! Thanks for the kind words Mourningcloud. And I'll try to work on the small heads... That's the problem when you get your anatomy and drawing lessons from reading too many comic books!
