Hexxenhammer
For those of you always looking for faster ways to paint minis, I present the Warlord Deathriders spectral cavalry. I was thinking I wanted them to look like the army of the dead in LoTR. This is white primer, Reaper emerald ink with a couple drops of flow improver. Totally crappy pics but you get the idea. I'll post some nice ones when I varnish and base them. The ink was hardly dry here. The front one has a banner sculpted onto the lance. He could be the standard bearer for the troop. Niloc
Now that cool Hexxenhammer ... fantastic idea, I like it alot! Almost looks as if it'll glow-in-the-dark. Very ghost-like. Thanks for sharing.
Bonehead
That looks cool! I did the same with a GW Banshee but yours are darker. That looks better imo. They really seem to glow.
Lord Soth
Yea, great idea. I never would have thought of doing that. Looks awesome for being so simple. Make sure you post more photos when you are done.
Digital M@
Really sweet idea. Thanks for sharing. I have been wondering how I was goig to do a spectral face for a wraithish monster and now I have an answer.
Erion
That's really great, hexx. What did it take, about two minutes to do each one? The only thing I'd recommend is watch how the ink pools. You've got an obvious collection point at the bottoms of the shields.
Reaperbryan
You know what'd rock? (Cuz these are pretty cool) Go to a hobby store and pick up some of those glow int he dark paints - thin that and lightly wash that over the parts you'd highlight on a normal non-spectrally mini. It'll bring up the highlights, and glow in the dark! Also - Erions got a good point re: the pooling of ink at the bottom of the shields. No where else on the mini did the pooling look bad, it helped with the eerie effect - but at the shields, it was distracting. Way cool concept though! Hexxenhammer
I thought about watching to see where the ink pooled but then thought, "screw it, they're ghosts, they don't care," and went and watched TV. Actually it took about a half hour to do I think. I watered down the ink a little at first but it wasn't green enough. Then I tried straight ink, but that mostly ran off. Then ink with a drop or two of flow improver. That did the trick. But I was still reapplying to places because I had to twist it around to get all the nooks and crannies and it would run off. Sir Gadrun is waiting for his turn and I need to pick up 2 more of these guys for a full troop. I think they'll look pretty cool all lined up for a charge.
