Mengu
If you have any questions about the GenCon events, feel free to ask away. If there is anything Debby or I can't answer, I can bug Sue to pop in and answer a question or two Edited to add these two useful links: GenCon Indy Event Catalog GenCon Forums
Reaper User Vaitalla Posted May 12, 2005 Reaper User Share Posted May 12, 2005 I'll pop my little head in and say that I, and many other much-more-talented painter peeps, will be teaching classes at GenCon--so sign up, darnit! For those of you who live in the midwest but can't make it to ReaperCon, Indy is driving distance from a great many of you, so no excuses. --Anne
Hexxenhammer
I'll be there playing in the Warlord tourney and running my own events. Hopefully I can find time for a round of speed painting too.
mrbuddylee
Ok, questions from me! 1) When do you start registering for these events? 2) is the cost a generic ticket cost or $$ cost? 3) If I can only take 1 painting/mini "class" what should it be? 4) Are supplies provided and do you keep them or bring your own? 5) Why are the descriptions cut off in the excel spreadsheets? 6) Are seminars free? 7) They having a poker tournament again this year? These look interesting (mainly put here so I can remember what I liked ): Miniature Painting: Reflective Surfaces cost: 15 Miniature Painting: Flesh & Faces cost: 15 Reaper Speed Painting Contest cost: 1.5 Sculpting with Green Stuff and Miniature Manipulation cost: 19.5 Rackham Speed Painting Contest cost 1.5 Sculpting Faces With Bobby Jackson 15 Iron Kingdoms Seminar Ok, that's it from me, thanks for the help! :)
Mengu
1) When do you start registering for these events? May 16th, see the News post. 2) is the cost a generic ticket cost or $$ cost? It's the $ amount. I highly recommend registering instead of trying to use generic tickets. 3) If I can only take 1 painting/mini "class" what should it be? That totally depends on where your interests lie. 4) Are supplies provided and do you keep them or bring your own? For most classes, supplies are provided (it will say in the event description once registration is open). I do recommend people bring their own brushes if they are picky like me, since there won't be much to pick from. 5) Why are the descriptions cut off in the excel spreadsheets? The CSV file should have the complete description. I'm not sure why GenCon people were unable to get the Excel sheet straight. 6) Are seminars free? Yes. 7) They having a poker tournament again this year? No clue, but my guess would be yes. Hope that helps...
Dancin'Debby
The GenCon Forums link is nice if you're looking for class descriptions and costs (I see you must have found them). Remember the GenCon site is final, changes may occur from the post we made for Kit to put up in the news section on this forum. Hey everybody, come speed paint so I can heckle you!!! (Disclaimer...Reaper speed paint only, organizer (that's me) is not responsible for blobs of paint on mini the participant (that's you) made from surprise of being heckled) Seriously, come to speed paint. It's only a buck fifty and you get to take home a cool Reaper mini painted by you in only 45 minutes, when else can you get one painted that quickly! debby
Gus Landt
A word of warning. If this year is anything like previous years, all painting classes will sell out within 2 hours of registration opening. If you want a class, be online about 10 minutes before registration opens and be ready to quickly search for the classes you want. Get the ones you want in your shopping cart, and check out. THEN go back in and register for games and other things that don't sell out so fast. YES, when you put a class in your shopping cart, it is unavailable for others, so technically you can do all your shopping and check out just once. However, previous years have been filled with tales of people who tried that, and had their browsers crash on them, clearing their cart, only to come back online and find all the classes sold out. paintminion
Yes, there is a Poker Tournament. My hubby made it to 18th or something last year! But for general questions about all else, check the downloadable catalog for events and check the Gen Con forum for questions on them. We crewmembers that run the hobby events can answer any and all hobby event questions. Tips on Registering for classes: 1. Decide what you want to do before MAY 16TH! 2. Log in as early as you can. 3. Have the Event ID codes handy. Supposedly, you'll be able to simply type in the event code and all will be well...no need to hunt through the listings for the thing first. 4. If we make any changes, we will do our best to spread the word. That Gen Con forum thread about Miniatures Hobby Events is where our official word will be, so check it BEFORE the 16th. That said, I don;t think we'll be making any changes. 5. Obviously we have lots of classes so most people will be able to do something! Have alternates ready at hand in case you don;t get your first picks. 6. Always have some generic tickets ready... All Instructors (GM's) have the option of adding a person who has the generic ticket equivalent of the event cost. It IS only an option. So if someone doesn't show, they might add you. If they don't you'll be asked to leave. Except for Speed painting...if you can't get a seat, please come and heckle! In a good natured way ONLY of course! And don't forget to say hello to everyone! For those of us that can't make it to ReaperCon, this is the only place we get to meet and greet the people we know online! Oh, and Excel...highlight the column for descriptions, go to Format, Cell, and click on the wrap option.
Aphrella
So, is Reaper going to have a booth this year, or are we going to have to dig around to find mini's again?
mrbuddylee
ooh, here's another question, I have my account and my friends under mine. I bought both of the tickets, and now to make sure we're in the same events, do I add an event to the cart twice or how does that work? paintminion
That is a question best asked in the Gen Con forums--I can only answer the hobby events questions!
