twjolson
The section Reaper Vision is really sweet. Is that something that the average person can do? What techniques, programs and equipment is involved? Can we get a tutorial written up? If so, would Reaper allow submissions from fans to this? dargrin
I get the Reaper Broken link page. Do you mean THIS page? Reaper Vision

mrbuddylee
Yup, it's not too hard to do, I don't know about the quicktime part, but with Macromedia Flash, you can do something like that, all you need are enough pictures at enough angles. Pretty cool stuff though.

Pretty cool stuff though. And a tiny turn-table or way to spin the mini so that it doesn't do too much "wobbling" as the mini is rotated for each shot. Ooops - and a little practice in centering the mini on the turntable...
Super Administrators kit Posted May 13, 2005 Super Administrators Share Posted May 13, 2005 I have a really crummy $2 lazy susan from WalMart. It's better than the expensive one because it doesn't spin freely. I can turn it pretty easily, yet it doesn't drift. I also scored the outer rim of the devise using a pencil and a protractor so I could get a regular interval on my turn. I would still like to make this a semi-regular feature, but it's that time thing right now. Once life gets back to normal, I'll be sure to set aside a hour a week to making new ReaperVision entries. mrbuddylee: I still like the QT option because of the ease of authoring. You could make Flash work, but it's not as straightforward as a workflow designed to do one thing really well. kit
twjolson
Some more questions: You say the QuickTime is easier to author. For someone that has never authored QT files, how hard would it be to do this? Is the authoring progam free? What resolution do you take the picture at to allow for the zooming? How many pictures do you take to make a complete circle? Or if it's easier, how many degrees between each picture? Does Reaper allow submissions to the Reapervision gallery, or no? Can you give a rough idea of the time invested in doing one mini from the first picture to finished file? Sorry to be a bother, but this really has me intriqued and I think I want to do this with my mini's.

For someone that has never authored QT files, how hard would it be to do this? Is the authoring progam free? Not hard, and no. What resolution do you take the picture at to allow for the zooming? How many pictures do you take to make a complete circle? Or if it's easier, how many degrees between each picture? This is one of those "How long is a piece of string?" questions. It depends. How smooth do you want the image to turn? What do you want your final file size to hover around? How big do you want it to appear on the user's screen? Pick a number that goes into 360 evenly, if you intend to do a full circle. If you want to do an arc, decide it's turn and divide that number evenly. if you want to do multiple orbits, you need more pictures, and on and on. Decide how long your piece of string needs to be and plan accordingly. Does Reaper allow submissions to the Reapervision gallery, or no? No. Can you give a rough idea of the time invested in doing one mini from the first picture to finished file? It takes me about 30 minutes for a full 360, single orbit shoot. The hard part is centering the images in <insert name of your favorite photo editing software here>. kit
twjolson
Ok, thanks for the help. I guess I gots to go learn how to make quicktime movies now.
mrbuddylee
Yeah, it is a super cool thing to do, kudos to you Kit on taking the time to do it. Now, see, to make things more efficient, you need a setup like the used in the Matrix, so you can just sit a mini in the middle, hit a button and all your pictures are snapped. So the camera rotates around it. Sweet Of course, I think that might take a chunk out of the reapermini budget, but hey, think of all the time you'll save and how cool it'd be...
