Yup, I've come close to doing that several times... I developed a "twist the cap closed before shaking habit" that seemed to minimize the number of near-misses that I had...

That and eye dropper bottles... much more difficult to spackle through a tiny nozzle...

i spilled an entire GW pot of bad moon yellow on my kitchen floor...

still finding some of that stuff around...

it was the old twist tops, and i was painting out of the lid, i went to grab the pot to put the lid back on, and somehow managed to basically throw it off the table..

I just tipped a bottle right over once, don't remember why...I was trying to do something, and suddenly, there was paint all over my desk!

Been there, done that.

Tricky part then is deciding what you have that will fit in that color. I remember I had about 20 figures with bronze basses at one point because of that!

A good habit I got into many years ago is that whenever I shake a pot of paint I always hold it such that the palm of my hand covers the lid. This is very good for preventing accidents with loose lids, and I highly recommend it.

I did that during a speed paint a couple weeks ago with metallic silver. Fortunately, I also shake bottles much like alchemist described. It only covered my hand and part of my wrist.

Of course I started cracking jokes about being Qwyk Silverhand. I knew someone else at the table was going to, so I had to say it first. ^_^

Well, it's a better name than Johnny Tremain.

I now have a beautiful brassy paint spackling all over my the walls and computer.

Im I the only one stupid enough to shake an open paint bottle ? Any painting tips on how to remember you have taken the cap off.

Get some alcohol. Not the kind you drink, but the kind you rub on wounds.

Get an old, beat up paintbrush. Don't use a good one.

Dip in alcohol, brush off paint flecks.

Of course, it could take the other paint off your walls as well.
