Beef with Canadian distribution

Recommended Posts

I hate to complain, but I just have to complain about getting reaper miniatures in the great white north. I've been talking to my FLGS and apparently he used to be able to order reaper stuff and get it in two weeks, any figure he wanted. Now it takes longer than that, apparently because a company called Silver Fox is doing the casting and distribution. Second, a lot of figures that are available in the states don't seem to be obtainable to my FLGS. I had tried to order 6 different figures and only one was obtainable. I'm wondering why this is and if it will get better. The FLGS is Mirror Universe in Nova Scotia if that helps.

Thanks!

hey friendlyfungus....i too have had this problem with my local shop....yes i am from the great white north......very far east side.........my problem has gotten bad enough that i no longer trust the distributer that my shop uses and i will not order any minis thru them any more, its best if you order straight from Reaper its self....or if you wish to shop around for ...cheaper prices try ebay.... good luck :B):

I have to say that I'm rather surprised at how difficult it seems to get things into Canada and the customs tax they do on everything. I sent off some magazines (sold all my Dungeon Mags) up to Canada late last year and it took three weeks through UPS to get there and THEN it cost the fella another $200 in custom 'tax' (?).

Seems rather prohibitive for shipping things in general.

When my brother was living in Canada a couple years ago, I tried to send him some things for Xmas that I ordered directly from the Canadian website for several chain stores and Amazon. I ordered 2 weeks before Xmas with 2 day deliveries and they arrived 2 weeks after New Years.

After that experience I don't complain nearly as much about USPS.

I'm not sure what you mean by customs tax*, but if you send anything from the US to Canada via UPS then you should really think again. A friend who probably lurks on this board bought some new Reaper Master Series paints. Short story they were defective. Reaper apologized and sent replacements ... by UPS. When they finally arrived UPS wanted $30 for processing through customs. That $30 CDN on two free replacement bottles of paint with a declared value of $6 USD. This isn't Canada Customs this is UPS charging for a service that they don't even do. (I should know, I worked for UPS Canada and watched them process incoming packages from the US.) For the above reason I cancelled my order for the Reapercon Sophie. Had I had the option of USPS I'd be out about $40 and Reaper would have 75% of it. Strangely, when stuff comes through two totally different postal services (the US and Canadian), it gets here in a reasonable time and without any customs charges. Americans need to realize that most (US) courier companies while good for US shipping are deplorable for international shipping. And after reading Qwyksilver's post I'll also point out a certain company has always sucked in Canada, not names. Lastly if you ordered from Amazon Canada then the problem wasn't probably even with the sucky courier, but Amazon ... but that's a whole other rant.

friendlyfungus, I didn't believe Silver Fox AKA RAFM does casting for Reaper, but the packaging is somewhat inconclusive. (Reaper in Canada proints to RAFM address, but still stays Made in the USA.) So is RAFM a caster or a distributor in Canada? Enquiring minds want to know. And while the two weeks late thing is about right on the left coast, never had a problem getting any minis.

* Despite NAFTA there are still tariffs on some things and Revenue Canada can level a 7% GST (sales tax) on things coming in from foreign countries. I personally have never had to pay 7% on anything I had shipped here, but it is still within their rights to do it. And certainly not on second hand items.

Well, shooting you straight, my store has not been open long enough for me to know exactly how my shipments to Canada go in terms of time, but I ship via the USPS and have not had a complaint yet for shipments inside the US. I offer decent pricing and would be glad to give er a shot for ya.

I currently carry most of the Warlord and CAV related items as well as the Master Paints. I hope to carry the other lines soon, still building up my inventory.

One good thing is that I am only about 30 minutes from Reaper, so if you happen to order something not in stock, it takes minimal time for me to get it.

Apologies to the Admins if this is inappropriate. Just trying to help offer assistance to a fellow gamer in need.

Very rarely have I not had a 7% GST levied on my purchases that come through from outside Canada (Please note, if you are mailing somethign to Canada if marked with 'Gift' I believe you are exempt from GST, within reason, I believe possibly under $100 Canadian value).

Canada post is so so messed up these days, it costs more money to ship something within Canada than it does to ship to the states. You can send a 5"x5" box for $8, but to send a 4"x4" box it costs 25, because 'Canada post has a tendancy to loose small boxes', and therefore has to charge more, that is straight from someone working at a Post Office. If that isn't messed up I don't know what is.

In the winters I sell a thousand or two auctions on ebay. Almost every thing I send to canada takes forever to get there because the canadian post office/customs. I send usps only and have talked to them and they say they get it there in a couple days but the canadianpostal service/customs is the problem.

Iain:

On your order there is a comments section - if you specify in the comments that you want it shipped USPS as opposed to UPS, we will do so. We tend to prefer UPS as a business because we get tracking/confirmation automatically, but we will use USPS if you request.

Thanks Bryan. Doesn't help me now, but will in the future.

If you ever had worked at UPS you'd never send anything by them. And strangely I get things from the UK faster than I get things from the US when sent by postal systems. So does Canada Post take the same amount of time and the UK postal system is so much better the the US one or what's going on?

Still I'd like to know what Reaper's situtation is in Canada.

I typically get things faster from the UK than from Canada, so I'd blame a lot of it on Canada Post.
