spiritual_exorcist
1 Blister of Ironspines 2 Blisters of Templar Warriors + characters to taste to me that makes a very decent and solid foundation for a melee heavy Crusader force. Or, if you prefer to add ranged attacks you could add Ivy crown archers in place of the 2 blisters of warriors. Just my thoughts
Castlebuilder
JZim, I would look at Valandil (Mage) and a Captain. I actually prefer having a mage before I pick a cleric. A captain is a good leader choice for small games since it allows you a lot more points for grunts. I would go with archers before getting more grunts, although I acknowledge that others don't care for the Ivy Crown Archers. And of course you will need a Sergeant for your second troop. Save Halbarad and Gerard for when you get over 1000 points....... Castlebuilder
JZim
Sry guys but i dont get gerrard thats only in the "Crusaders" set, I got the general "Starter Box" With Necropolis and Crusaders, so I dont get Gerrard. Though I would like to know peoples thoughts about gerrard and the Guardian angel, I wont be going over 1000 pts thats my limit so I was wondering if i should put one or both of them in? Kelcore
I agree with what everyone else said, except for Castlebuilder's assesment of Halbarad. I think he's a great buy at any point-level game. It's like having another captain (with a lower DV than most captains, mind you. Upgrade his armor) in your troop. Plus, he's a really good Cleric. Outside of that, my advice to you is: Get them all. Seriously.
spiritual_exorcist
Your best bet might actually be to buy the Crusaders box set next, and then a pack of Ironspines and an additional Sgt (either COnlan, or Malcom). That would really set you up well to play a wide variety of different sized games with a melee Crusader focus. Characters: I would buy in this order based on what you have (Just my opinion) Sir Conlan (Low level cleric/Sgt, tkae advantage of him) Valandil Sir Malcom (Cheap Sgt considering his 2 damage tracks) Duke Gerard (THE DUKE! You have to get the Duke!) Sir Broderick (I Just like him alot better than Ironraven) Marcus Gideon (Strange he is so low priority, I've used him in alot of builds) Finari (She is a decent Elite for a decent price but I'd include Halbarad and Valandil way before her) Sister Majedah (granted, if You decide to buy battle nuns early on you might want to bump her up the list)
Castlebuilder
Hey Kelcore, I don't have anything against Halbarad, but I in the 750 pt. games I've played I have not found a lot of uses for Clerics. They are over too fast. I prefer having a couple fireballs and such in fast games. So just how do you use the cleric effectively in such quick games? Qwyksilver
He casts Mercy on the big models, heals them back up, and sends them off so they can kill some more of their own. Watching Narg come after his own troop of Reven made me very, very sad.

Castlebuilder Exactly how Qwyksilver described it. I find that a couple of bandages, and maybe a Part spell come in real handy in even the smaller point games. Especially if you go after your oppenent's "big guns" with Mercy and would like them to last more than a round. Granted, you can accomplish this with Conlan, but with Halbarad's superior CP (as oppossed to Conlan's much lower score), your chances are even better of doing this. It works out pretty well for me, YMMV. That, and I'm a huge fan of the Halbarad mini, both in sculpt and stats.
Qwyksilver
Kelly, that was the first time I saw part being used to draw opponents closer to you in the Finals. Most of the time I have seen it to advance a troop prior to their movement action to try and engage a troop more quickly.

Saint of Sinners
You want Templar Knights, and lots of them. Save up for the Crusader Faction box set and get Sir Conlan (low level cleric and sgt. for 30pts.)
