Ardice
So, this is the first diorama I've ever done. Personally, I think it turned out really well. The pictures aren't that great because my camera's pretty crappy, but they're all I've got. I got the idea from a gift I received from a friend - the gypsy caravan. It took me almost two years to finish it, and if you could see the details you'd be able to tell from the difference in quality. I can definitely see the improvement in painting quality. The grass didn't turn out the way I wanted, but I can live with it (it's kinda flat and "trampled" looking.). Anyway, comments welcome, although I already know the pictures aren't that great... Ardice
And one final view that looks like the flash was on (I don't know why, stupid camera...)
WitchyWolf
Great concept design. I really like the illusion of the gypsies running around to defend the wagon from the bad guy. I like the vivid, rich colors. Is that a slab of log you are using for a base? Cool use of resources. Did you have to do anything special to the wood to seal or prep it for this? That trampled grass look would be perfect for a campsite or mid-battle environment. Is it regular static grass or something else?
Ardice
Thanks for the compliments. I chose the colours for the simple reason that the characters are gypsies and would be colourful :) Yes, I used a slab of log for the base. I bought it at Michael's and I didn't do anything to treat it before using it. I did use some Poly fill in a thin layer to give the ground some texture before I painted and flocked it. And the grass is just static grass. I'd originally planned to include a piece of road in the diorama - as if the gypsies were waylaid on their way through the forest, but I decided I didn't have the patience to do it :)
Mastertickles
Well I have to say that you did a fantastic job! I'll have to go to Michaels for one of those log bases for clocks. never thought of that. Who makes the miniatures?
Niloc
Great diorama Ardice! I love the base you did. Neat concept, very colorful even for gypsy's :-) I'm also interested on who makes these minis? And what is this "Vampire Wars"? Thanks for sharing.
Ardice
Thanks again for the compliments. About those figures I used, they're made by West Wind Productions (reading the info off their box) and it looks like their US distributor is Old Glory. They're a line of gothic horror type figures. They have a website that I haven't checked out yet - www.vampirewars.co.uk <edit> okay, that website doesn't seem to work anymore. Try this one and click the link to "gothic horror" and then "vampire wars" West Wind Productions Website </edit> The range is fairly interesting - I have one of Jack the Ripper, here that i'm looking forward to painting up. The only thing I have to say about the line that I don't particularly like is I'm not super impressed with the actual sculpts. The females are very well endowed (more so than usual for a mini) and the faces are not always that great. Other than that I think they're a fairly interesting line. My favourites are the asylum inmates... they remind me of the convention organizing committee I run...
