ixminis
After a certain amount of fiddly painting in one day, I've gotta relax and work on something *light* like a grunt... A few warnings: I wasn't worried about staying in all of the lines, and I was (and will be) quick while painting these gloriously fiddly Reptus grunts... and this is still a WIP - work in progress!!! The good news is that the colors seem to be working... My overall goal was to have a brown leeeezard... purples and or black were considered for the armor... but I ended up keeping the original artworks oranges... and added a tealish color on a whim... My main questions: Do the metallics (that are painted so far) work for you? Do the colors work for you? Okee Thanks for your comments, criticism, suggestions, etc. - in advance!!! Kelcore
My main questions: Do the metallics (that are painted so far) work for you? Do the colors work for you? Okee On the metallics- The gold looks sweet. The steel? I can't really tell, the light's pretty reflective off of it, which might not be a bad thing! The rest of the colors- I can't really tell about the shade of brown for the skin. But The teal armor with the oranges is very, VERY cool. I might have to swipe that color scheme should I get around to doing up some Reptus...
ixminis
Yeah, you don't wanna know how bad the steel looks... same thing for the brown... however... once I get a big pile of these guys painted up they'll look great from 2' - 4' away !!!! I intend to nominate them for the fiddliest Warlord grunt award. At the same time, I think they are also very forgiving for being so fiddly. Good bold colors & strong lining will make em really pop... so one *can* keep the time down. What else... I'm having fun playing with the tails to make sure they're all posed differently... Um... That's it... mumble mumble...

There's something to be said for the satisfaction one has when you're finished with a unit of good-lookin', if fiddly, grunts. I'd very much like to see the whole troop when it's done, if at all possible.
Clouse
the gold and steel are good looking. The teal armor looks good too, I might have to try it some time on either Reptus or the Darkspawn someday.

Spatula
Hey Michael, how many different 'browns' will you use on this model?
ixminis
Folks, Welcome Spatula - If I'm right, he's one of my gaming buddies who's always joking with me (and anyone in ear shot) about how many different bottles of brown paint I own.... I promise you, I need 'em all... There are browns with grey base, green base, red base, grey-green base, blue base... and they all mix differently... really!!!!!! Hexxenhammer
Yeah, I've now got six of these guys. It's killing me that I can't bring myself to just glue the shields on beforehand. I always assemble everything before painting, but I just can't do it with these. They're going to take me forever... I guess my dipped and inked necros will have to be my trade off in the speed of painting department.
Kheprera
Folks, Welcome Spatula - If I'm right, he's one of my gaming buddies who's always joking with me (and anyone in ear shot) about how many different bottles of brown paint I own.... There are never enough different shades of any one color. Especially blacks, whites, and grays, which can have cool tones or warm tones, red color shifts or green or blue (and sometimes yellow). Just look at all the different colors in the RMSPs for skin tones. Each is a viable skin tone color, but just different in color base. Then look around at people for a day, and notice that there are even more dramatic color shifts in skin tone. As for browns, I can look around my office and spy about 12 different shades right off the bat, ranging from a grayish brown to reddish to yellow.
