Vil-hatarn
I'm planning to paint some minis for general sale over the summer. Does anyone have suggestions of minis that would appeal to a large number of people? It doesn't matter what type they are, though I personally prefer warlord and dark heavens, I might do one or two others for some variety. Shin Okada
How about some Dragons? Many people can recognize them.
Vil-hatarn
If I was going to do a dragon, it would have to be a smaller one, not one of the big boxed set ones. I wouldn't put that much work into a model unless it was a commission and I knew I was getting paid for it. Might go for the silver dragon or something similar, though, something under $20. EDIT: Okay, went and looked up the smaller dragons: 2717, Dragon of Fire, Sandra Garrity 2539, Silver Dragon, Sandra Garrity Those are the only two I really like, they would work well as a centerpiece to the display. The rest will be the coolest looking dark heavens minis I can find. Probably do a dozen or so.
Lars Porsenna
Are you limiting yourself only to Reaper products? If not, I'd definitely go for GW stuff, since well painted items seem to sell well... Damon.
Vil-hatarn
It'll be a local thing, no one'll care about brand or game system. Plus, all the GW models worth selling cost too much to begin with.
deep_sashelas
Let's see...Warning: Stereotypes flying, watch your head: Girls tend to gush over unicorns, and griffons. Horses, maybe. Cute is your best bet, like those hatching dragons. Guys...hrm, heroic figures and boobs...hem, I mean naked ladies...erm, "artfully dressed figurines?" General appeal: dragons. Possibly wizards with the Harry Potter craze. Angels might work. Knights. Oh. Elves. Girls especially, if the oohing over Legolas in LOTR was any indication. I'd suggest sticking to easily recognizable heroic mythology, and avoiding fantasy monsters/demons unless you know your general audience is ok about that sort of thing. Like if you're selling to a pack of gamer friends, I'd paint whatever they want for their games. Laypeople, I'd stick with the above. Shin Okada
Oh. Elves. Girls especially, if the oohing over Legolas in LOTR was any indication. Good point. Even though relatively expensive, famous characters from GW's LotR line will appeal to large numbers of people for sure.
Vil-hatarn
I would probably do some LotR ones, and still might, but I really don't like those sculpts for some reason. Meh. I'll check them out, just to be sure. They probably would sell well...thanks for all the suggestions, now I just have to buy them and paint them all in under three months while still getting other stuff done oh well
Mengu
Knight: Sir Richard the White Knight Wizard: Magnus Wizard Of Hope (call him Gandalf) Witch: Selmarina or Elise Elf: Lindir Lightarrow or Wood Elf King Dwarf: Dain, Dwarf Hero Unicorn, Pegasus, or Griffon would be good too. These should cover your typical sword and sorcery genre. You also could do a villain or two, but not sure what to suggest there.
Jonas Withabee
If you're trying to sell to gamers, maybe you could paint a "package deal" of a generic adventuring party, like a Fighter, Mage, Thief, and Cleric. Could be a fun theme to play with. Or, if you're feeling really ambitious, you could try to paint a chess set. I've thought about that, but I'm afraid I'd never get them all painted. ~J
Digital [email protected]
For EBAY, I believe female figs tend to get more than male figs. Reaper has had a nice expansion in their femal line and have both clothed and semi nude females. I suggest females for Ebay, but for local sales I don't know if that holds true. Vil-hatarn
I have thought of doing a chess set. However, like the big dragons, I'd only do it for myself or for a pre-paid commission. I think most of my sales will probably end up being to the female half of the population. I've been working on a list, I'll put it up tomorrow. I've got to go pack for a scout trip now. Decado
Another idea for gamers is paint some Reaper goblins or orcs. As a DM I know I can never have enough goblins or orc minis on hand. Good luck. Decado
Vil-hatarn
Here's the current list: Either 2114 or 2491 for a wizard. 2539 or 2717 for a dragon. 2802 or 2854 for cuteness factor. 2849, 2909, 2934, 2585, and 14018 for elfiness. Any others that would work really well? I've still got to skim through casketworks for ideas, but I'm a bit overloaded with homework right now, since the term ends this week.
