jenova
I thought I'd try the transparent clothing thing..... Warning: In case the effect works (unlikely), the pictures might show some nudity... http://www.jenova.dk/imgs/gallery/crocodil...s/nnnbasti1.jpg http://www.jenova.dk/imgs/gallery/crocodil...s/nnnbasti2.jpg http://www.jenova.dk/imgs/gallery/crocodil...s/nnnbasti3.jpg
keshley
Sexy basti! Love the skin and the gems are to boot! Lili
Vil-hatarn
I think you've got the right idea, it's just not quite thin enough. From certain angles, it looks transparent, but not from most. Good try, keep it up!
jenova
Thanks guys I wasn't going for completely transparent. I don't really like that look.
eastman
The skin on the Basti looks really good. IMO, I think for the non-Nekkid Nekkid effect, the areas where the cloth is tight against the skin need to be a little darker (to go along with the darker skin tone you used). Basically, the skin mid-tone with a white glaze over it.
jenova
IMO, I think for the non-Nekkid Nekkid effect, the areas where the cloth is tight against the skin need to be a little darker (to go along with the darker skin tone you used). Basically, the skin mid-tone with a white glaze over it. I did start off with a darker color, but I didn't really like the way it looks. Too transparent (and too darn NAKED). Also I think this looks better IRL. The supertransparent cloth looked a little wierd... a bit like some chrome NMM (nice in pics but bad IRL). eastman
A different option would be to take the areas of cloth which are not tight against the skin to a brighter white to make the cloth stand out. (since I am going back and forth between message boards and work, my original comment was typed before I saw your comments about not wanting to be too transparent)
Heisler
I like her a lot. Having seen a number of Croc minis done this way I think you pulled it off quite well. Its definitely not an easy technique considering how many of my Basti have received "stripper" (pardon the pun) baths. She would go quite nicely with my Basti Warband. Cade
IMO, I think for the non-Nekkid Nekkid effect... NNN. I like it. I think the mini turned out great. I do pick up a very mild transparent effect. If that's what you were aiming, it turned out well. I think the croc games basti are a very cool segment of minis.
LordColdsteal
Love the skin, very smooth... Gems are great, good color choices... white silk with blue... but what I really love is the eye shadow... that makes the mood of the figure. As for transparent... I think it is done enough.. the rear end is really well done... very realistic. Great job overall, though I don't know why you did the dungeon-like stones for the base... I would have thought more marble or something like that.
Artists Wren Posted June 10, 2005 Artists Share Posted June 10, 2005 Wow, the skin is so smooth, warm and soft looking, that's really amazing! I like the subtle transparency, I don't think every transparent effect has to be full on wet T-shirt contest look, thin cloth ranges in translucency. fieldarchy
Wow! This is an amazingly painted mini! I will have to take a look at Croc Games. I have actually never heard of them before You are very talented for sure!
ixminis
Good stuff Jenova! I like the translucent look much better than the wet t-shirt look. There's something to be said about hinting at things vs. bludgeoning one over the head with it. (In case anyone doesn't know it, I'm the king of understatement, so "Good Stuff" really is a high compliment). I just got my pile of hasslefree, rackham, crocodile, freebooter stuff... which to paint first... which to paint first... Anyone started Reaper's Quesadilla yet?? Jester
Anyone started Reaper's Quesadilla yet?? Yep... And Jenova, I love the skin coloration on her. Just the right color (IMO) for a Basti.

(since I am going back and forth between message boards and work, my original comment was typed before I saw your comments about not wanting to be too transparent) And now that I'm home and looking at this on my CRT monitor (instead of a flat panel LCD monitor) the effect is much clearer. The LCD monitor muddied things up, now I can clearly see the differences between the translucent areas and the whiter areas. Very good work (and the skin color look even better on my monitor) @Cade - IIRC, it was Rodnik who first coined the term "non-nekkid nekkid" - I just liked it so much I use it whenever refering to the technique
