Howdy, here is my second post for this site. I've been really practicing, and then I'm making progress. This was a really basic figure that started talking to me early on and once her eyes were done (which was really early on strage enough), I knew that I had to take some time and do her right. So, how did I do? I haven't done anything with the base yet... that is the goal for this week. Any suggestion on that?

When figures start talking to you, it's a sign of mild figmentia.

When you start losing arguements to them, it's time to get a new hobby :)

Anyways, not bad at all, I love the yellow and back combination. The fact is outstanding!

If I had to point out something to work on/improve/playwith - I'd suggest possibly going a little more extreme with your highlighting if you are going for a NMM look (lots of people here can help you with that)

Honestly, I like the aestetic of the flatter metallics as it is - stylistically it's cool.

I also like your highlights on the black :) I have such a hard time with that - so I'm going to try to paint more things black to force myself to improve.

The face is lovely, and I really like the shield, as well. For my taste, I think it would benefit from taking the hair highlights up a few levels. Good job!

Nonsense, 'rigger! Duke Gerard tells me "how it is" all the time!

'Coldsteal- I really have to applaude your use of color here. It's an awesome change of pace from the typical greens and browns normally associated with elves. I particularly like the blue-black highlighting/shading. Awesome.

I agree with SaintRigger on the NMM and would work on more extreme shading/highlighting with that. Especially the gold parts. To me it looks too yellow. I'd reccomend the new MSP Gold Ochre triad for that. They're very, very good for that. Failing that, I'd try some warm (Earth, or Muddy) Browns for shading.

I really like the designs on the shield. But they're a little too subtle. Brightening up the background of the shield face or edging the designs themselves (or both) would make them pop more.

The eyes are quite awesome. And the fleshtones look really smooth.

Wow, nice composition! I especially like the subtle freehand detail on the shield.

You've definitely pulled off the steel nmm on the sword, but the armour areas aren't as convincing, and the gold is a bit yellow.

Oh, and the eyes are fantastic. Very sultry 'I'm going to gut you' sort of look to her.

Crap, I need to start practicing...

Very lovely stuff. Clean, and bright, I think you really have a winning combination for this particular mini, in fact I'd love to see an entire elf army painted up like this. The freehand is so subtle, yet very effective.

I just finished my mini exchange mini, and boy do I wish I could be sending someone out something of this calibre. Oh well, next time.

I really like her!

What colors did you use on the tunic? On my monitor it looks like a dark blue-gray rather than black. It's a really different color, especially for elves and I like it alot. Although I would have gone a bit darker with the gold edging- but since I rarely use yellow (and don't really like it as a color anyway) feel free to ignore that. :upside:

Wow... such nice people here... grin.

I started working on a base for her. Got out some green stuff and bult a rock path. Never worked with it before... and I'm suprised how much fun it was! I took some advice from those of you (thanks for all the great comments): I highlighted the armor a little more, I lighted the field on the shield.. but I didn't do anything to the "gold"...

The colors I used where the Reaper MS Midnight/Templar/Ashen blue triad. I really like how this blue combo looks. I used only a couple of yellows to do the "gold" work, but I wanted yellow instead of gold. I think it worked well with the blue. I also highlighted her hair a bit more.

I'm working on a second elf (a male.. not as much fun.. wink) in the same colors, and played with more green stuff for his base.

As to which figure that is, look at the Warlord "Elf Grunt" (14119). I really like this pack... and I'm not an elf kinda person.... though I hope one of my friends or wife uses this figure in a game... I think she came out great. I'll post a new pic when she's done (and has the new base completed).

Thanks for all the comments... please feel free to add more.. I love learning from all these great people.
