Bodhi
Hello. I'm new to the forum and try to dabble in sculpting. I never seem to be able to finish anything though Well here's some of my greens. Check under the heading "greens". There is also a file with a step by step of a sculpt of a WWI soldier who got some "help" from the elder gods. I'm sure he regrets asking. That's under the heading "Working process". I'd apreciate any comments
Enchantra
First of all, Welcome to the Boards! Secondly those are some beautiful sculpts. I do have one suggestion: Try to smooth out the "smooth" areas of the sculpts more, some of it looks a bit rough. If rough was the look you wanted of course then you achieved it. Otherwise great work all around.
Bodhi
Yes. These are my two main problems: Smoothing and finishing. Well I'm consistently working on both. Hopefully in time for this Frothers sculpting contest I'll have managed at least the latter
Enchantra
I find that smoothing is easier for me when I use a rounded sort of flat blade on a sculpting tool and keep it constantly moist.
Nanite
Yup, keep your tools wet, it helps a great deal with the finish. Excellent ideas, and you have a LOT of talent.
mrbuddylee
Those look very good! Keep up the practice and you'll be a pro in no time!
WitchyWolf
I love the sense of dynamic action and expression they have. Unique and compelling. Very nice.
billr
A tip I picked up from a sculpter at gencon was to use one of those rubber tipped paint shaping tools for smoothing out gs. It works great.
skavenbabe
Welcome! I really like that shaman-y lookin guy, with the yin-yang around his neck. That thing on his back creeped me out! I didn't notice it at first.
Bodhi
A tip I picked up from a sculpter at gencon was to use one of those rubber tipped paint shaping tools for smoothing out gs. It works great. They're called "clay shapers" and I have those and use them extensively. Problem with smoothing is mainly timing. Best smoothing is done after an hour or so of curing and since I have three small kids in the house I rarely get that opportunity. Mine is more a case of "Grab the few minutes of sculpting you can get whenever you can" Skavenbabe: I'm glad you like the wizard and his little familiar. The familiar stands a proud 5 mm high The wizard, Kira the elven thief and the postapocalyptic dwarf have been sold (cheaply; since I've allready made them I'm not very interested in keeping them - I'm not a collector type) to some guy who is trying to start up a miniature company. I haven't got around to shipping them yet though since I want to make a few changes before I leave them - especially the guns of the dwarf are absolutely horrible - but hopefully I'll see some castings in the future. billr
They're called "clay shapers" ooh, thanks. I've been wondering for awhile now.
