Gen Con Hobby Events Volunteers Needed!

Recommended Posts

I don't want to be off topic, here, but where else to put this than in front of fellow painters?

It's that time of year to schedule volunteers to help out with the Paint & Take and other Hobby Events that I organize for Gen Con—Miniatures Painting Competition, Speed Painting, Seminars, Classes for painting, terrain, sculpting and much more. You've heard about all that already!

The events are all scheduled, I just need some minions willing to help out for a few hours or more.

If you're interested in joining up with my Crew and having some fun volunteering, there are great compensations for your time and efforts!

My Crew, although Gen Con Volunteers (all of us!), are scheduled and handled separately from the regular Gen Con Volunteers, so if you aren't interested in the Hobby Events, please contact Gen Con and volunteer your time to help make other aspects of the con run smoothly! There are great perks and great friendships to be found!

Please contact me at [email protected] for more information about being a Crew Minion or go to GenCon.com and find out more about Volunteering at Gen Con Indy.

Yeah!! Volunteer your support to Sue!! She and her people do a truly excellent service to the painting community by drawing new people into the hobby through a marvelous Paint 'n' Take and by making the GenCon painting contest one of the best in the country, not to mention providing tons and tons of awesome classes taught by some of the best in the business. ::): Plus, working for her gives you a great excuse to go to GenCon, because you'll be working and not just bumming around! ::D:

Hope to see many of you there,

--Anne :)

It's not the badge I'm worried about.

It's the whole lodging/food/getting there cost. Otherwise I'm stuck here at work downloading drafts of next years forms that will change the next day anyway making me download the new one again.

Edit: I was really just kidding. This year will be another one where I can't make GenCon. ReaperCon took all my leave time I had accrued and any excess funds I had. Maybe in a few years when bills are paid off (barring me declaring bankruptcy by then), we have a new car and a digital camera, and Thomas is a little older so we can take him with us.

ReaperCon was the second gaming con I had ever been to, and the first one couldn't really be called a con since it was just a bunch of people sitting in a hotel around different tables playing various games (no dealer room or anything, just a bunch of gamers needing a place to play). All I did there was play Chill for about an hour before leaving (because our time was up due to the GM being late).

I think you have to bump me off and take over managing all the events to get that deal...and wait, even *I * don't get all my food taken care of! And I work all four days...wait, why do I do this again? Oh yeah! It's fun, you meet lots of people, get the joy of seeing events happen and make lots of people happy, and it's an excuse to avoid painting space marines.

BTW, Volunteers have a special room that sometimes has goodies to snack and drink on....not that I'm pushing people to volunteer at Gen Con...but they could always use extra people, and so could I!

*LOL*

Seriously though, the food is something I could manage but the plane ticket and the lodging are things that currently wouldn't fit my budget. Volunteering would be lovely if I could afford to do it.

Sue,

Volunteer's have access to a room, sometimes with food and drink? Why didn't someone point this out to me sooner, like last year, or the year before?

I'll be sending you my hours for this year's tour of duty later this week. Are there any hours we are short yet, or is it still pretty much open?

Well, Gen Con Volunteers have a small room, that sometimes has snacks and sometimes doesn't. If you're willing to wear a Volunteer shirt and look like a regular volunteer with your timesheet and all, you have access to it. I'm offering it as a hook with a tiny worm only. :B):

Hours are still pretty open! Paint & Take is 10-6pm, but we have other times we could use a hand or two. People who just show up to help are always welcome, btw! Time commitment is anywhere from a couple hours on up to 32. <g> For a few hours, Mrbuddylee, you can get some free paints and a couple minis. For 16 you can get your full badge reimbursed. 32 can get you partial compensation for your hotel room. Gen Con needs volunteers 24 hours a day so you can log hours with more than just us.

Now, if you want to schedule yourself right in there, right now, I can add you to the Yahoo group and get you up to speed on what's happening on the schedule.
