Darkstar
I swapped his wimpy little sword out for a staff. Here's a shot of him, in and out of his display base: He must be hotter than hell in that thick leather coat in the desert. Luckily he's just about to cast a "dweomer of major cooling" from his book. Man, I wish I had that spell in real life, it's starting to get ridiculously hot here again. , paint drying up in mid-stroke because the fan is blowing on me constantly, AC cranking, drying up my mixes lol...summer in NorCal is not the best time of year for year round mini painters.
Enchantra
Darkstar: I love the leather on him. I to know about heat and humidity, though at least up here in the Northeast we don't get it as bad as you do. Thankfully my painting area is in the basement, which is always cool (65-70) in the summer and stays around 45-50 in the winter. If I choose to paint upstairs though when the AC is not going or the fans are on, it gets a might hard to paint. During the winter I often opt to bring many painting supplies up from the basement and sit at the diningroom table.

Whats funny is I had a conversion hype 2 weeks ago and found a mindflayer with a broken staff and added the same staff to him and thought hey I need to paint him because it looks super and you beat me to it hehehehehehe

deep_sashelas
Those are sweet sweet browns. I like how they're all subtly different from each other, and segregated by the super-thin and effective blacklining.

Darkstar
Thanks Enchantra, wish I had a basement, We're upstairs in a split level flat, heat rises as such and yeah...thank god for AC, may have to take a part time job to pay the bill but it would be worth it lol. Thanks Zordana. Thanks VL, can't wait to see your version of this funky chicken leg staff. If Colonel Sanders was a wizard, this would most definately be his staff. Thanks Maceswinger and VKD, funny stuff. As a huge Terry Pratchett fan, (Discworld) I'm very fond of Wizard humor. I'll never look at this guy the same again. Should have based him in a bookstore environment with a cowering orangutan behind the counter. Thanks Deep Sash, you should see my collection of brown paints, sometimes I feel the urge to give some of them a proper workout. I take great delight in finding good combinations of browns and painting them to all work out together with their respective highights and shades. Kheprera
Beautiful piece. I love the color scheme. He would fit in any fantasy or modern setting since his pants could pass for blue jeans and the robe for leather.
LordColdsteal
I love the work you did on the trim... really makes the figure. Great browns, excellent blending as well.... gives me direction to go on a mage I am working on. I would love to see a pic of the book from above.. see what you did to it as well. Those pants really work with that brown... wooooooooow (as I recal the words I used when I first saw this fig).
Darkstar
Thanks Aryanun, you're right, the pants do resemble blue jean. Just painted them with a French Greyblue color, gotta remember that for the next time I paint actual blue jeans, works well! Thanks Lord Coldsteal, actually the book just has little lines drawn on with a black Micron and then sort of a Drop Cap on the inside left page drawn with a red Micron. Nothing too fancy. Think of how a page in the bible looks, with two colums and a page number at the bottom usually, sort of like that.
bleujenna
This is just beautiful. I can never make my browns look so deep and rich- and his pants and beard really balance all the deep warm color. I especially like the strap- Superb! ~jenna
Stern Kestrelmann
Sweet dude. The browns rock, the freehand is exquisite, and the base is perfect... You make me want to start painting again. SK
