Just make your roll, and if if they live, they're just like every other troop. Just remember if the rest of the boys in your troop have engaged in melee, ranged, or magic use before you make your tough check, that figure cannot get up and participate in that same activity after the fact.

Yeah, a common mistake I see a lot is people thinking they have to make their Tough check at the start of that troop's activation. You can really help yourself out by waiting until the opportune time. Most commonly, as a Reven player, I perform a few MOVE actions first to get my leader into position to Warcry. Then I do the Tough check on anyone who didn't get up from Warcry.

 

Another non-faction-specific tactic is this: If your stunned melee troops would 'stand up' into base-to-base contact, wait until after your archers pelt the bad guys, then check Toughness. It's like shooting into melee without risking shaken. ^_^

Or you can just play either with or against the Dwarves. You'll never to worry about your opponents making a Tough check again. Or you making one either. :wub::wub:
