wrightjd
when you roll a tough check is that a free action for the model to get up (if they succeed) or does it count as activating a special action? I didn't really see anything specific in the book, or maybe i overlooked it.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted July 15, 2005 Moderator Share Posted July 15, 2005 Making a tough check is free. The model can take its two actions afterwards if it makes it.
Qwyksilver
Just make your roll, and if if they live, they're just like every other troop. Just remember if the rest of the boys in your troop have engaged in melee, ranged, or magic use before you make your tough check, that figure cannot get up and participate in that same activity after the fact. Yeah, a common mistake I see a lot is people thinking they have to make their Tough check at the start of that troop's activation. You can really help yourself out by waiting until the opportune time. Most commonly, as a Reven player, I perform a few MOVE actions first to get my leader into position to Warcry. Then I do the Tough check on anyone who didn't get up from Warcry. Another non-faction-specific tactic is this: If your stunned melee troops would 'stand up' into base-to-base contact, wait until after your archers pelt the bad guys, then check Toughness. It's like shooting into melee without risking shaken.
Qwyksilver
Fireball is another effective use of the same strategy that Gus mentioned. Just remember not to try that with Firestorm though, because that automatically adds in the CpG as well.
wildbill
Or you can just play either with or against the Dwarves. You'll never to worry about your opponents making a Tough check again. Or you making one either. Wild Bill
