I take a mix of deathseekers and vale guards, then match them up with long thorns. Once they're into combat, I put them in formation to get support bonuses. Also, the long thorns carry banner/musicians, as they aren't as easy to kill, since they don't get into combat.

Hehe...

This is a first - Archery done right! i cant wait to get the rulebook, and see all the cool things i can do. feathered death is right.

So then yeah, i think ill start re-thinking my fire-n'-fade tactics that i had thought up for a LotR Lorien army - it sounds like it would work much better here.

Hey Ugluk, do you have Caerwyn?

*does some quick math*

how many adepts can you have in a force? hmm...

 Elvises are pretty vulnerable to Air Mobile Infantry. Watch out for Death from Above, aka Crypt Bats, Gargoyle, or Succubus. These lads can pretty much be all over you in three shakes of a lambs tale. I would recommend an Eagle for your Combat Air Patrol. Scry shooting mages can also ruin your day. ::D:

The Elves are a very versatile army; I've taken melee-intensive Elven forces and held my own against some of the badder "melee" armies in the game.

That being said, they take finesse and an ability to force your opponent to play on your terms, not theirs. One of the best ways of doing that is playing defensively with a good mix of archery, mages, and melees to hold the line (having Vale Warriors not attack and just defend so I can fire arrow after arrow around them always makes me giggle).

All Models of the same name that are of Adept type must be in the same troop. So for you, all of your Vale Archers must be in the same troop and you can only have one troop of Vale Archers. (if you had more than one, they all wouldn't be in the same troop!) The exact number of models in the troop varies depending on who your leader is, but is usually around 10 figs.

When the Elf Faction book comes out, we should get some more Elven ranged strikers. Thus it could be possible to have one troop of Vale Archers, one troop of Rangers, one troop of Royal Guard Archers and one troop of Crossbowmen. (note- I just made all of those names up)

I played another contigent of elves, Necropolis, and Reptus. Unfortunately, I was in a tourney and could not change up my army for better fighting the Reptus with their impossibly hard to hit DVs. Lysette would have worked out much better.

By the way Mick, thanks for the credit, but I went 2-1 and beat tougher competition than the others who went 2-1.

Just so that everyone knows the truth.

I guess I had better put my new eagle together so I can battle your griffon, right Mick?

I guess it all depends on the points of the battle - in a 500 point game, id be lucky to get Caerwyn, and a moderate force, maybe five or six, of Vale Archers. considering Warlord is based off small skirmish sized forces then large armies (well, thats what im told...), this makes sense.

arg, i wish i knew more - i feel like a moron talking about stuff i dont even know about.

Hey Ugluk! once you get thr RB, i get first dibs on the read! lol.

an Elven Faction book would be nice too - but that gonna be a while...

First off to use Arnise you'll need a leader that can support an elite model

For a 500 pt Fighting company I'd go with Arnise

I'd recommend the following army w/ Caerwyn

Arnise - 60 pts

Caerwyn w/ 2x bandage - 212 pts

4x vale archers 44/174 pts

3x vale warriors 19/57 pts

Centuar - 58pts

This will give ya two Initiative Cards, minor healing, AoE of two inches for volley and melee support for yer archers.

As you can see yer sinking alot of points into Caerwyn. Personally you'd be better off with Niriodel (cleric) or Lysette (mage) if really want an elite in a 500 pt army.
