Unglef
Hello folk, I got me a bit of a dilemma, and was wondering if you'd help me out. My birthday's coming up, and I was thinking of taking a weekend trip, and can't decide where to go. I've narrowed it down to Columbia, SC or Nashville. Anybody here ever been to either? I may not go anyway, depends on my fundage, but I'd love some input just the same.
Orsino
All I saw of Columbia was the miles of sand and mud that are Ft. Jackson. I don't recommend it for a fun road trip. Let us know how your trip goes.
Kheprera
I've been through Nashville, but I was about seven at the time, so I don't remember it. Never been to Columbia. How about doing a websearch to see what's there to see that might be of interest to you?
Unglef
I prefer to rely on word of mouth rather than the internet, Ary, but I will look up both cities to get motel prices, directions to stuff, that sort of thing.
Reaperbryan
SC. The beaches there are the best. Nashville was one big tourist trap.
SaintRigger
I like the beaches in NC :) We vacation in the Outer Banks every fall. They are just as nice in SC :)
Saint of Sinners
Disneyland! so it wasn't one of the choices
Arvok
I've been to both and much preffered Columbia. USC is a fun party school and there is a river there there in Columbia you can swim.
Spartan6
The worlds largest ball of twine is located in western Kansas. It's a must-see!
Chrome
If you're considering Nashville, I'd suggest this place - http://www.io.com/~nmrcabin/ (The site looks like crap, but the cabins and countryside are amazing!). Its a couple hours west of Nashville, just south of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. My wife and I stayed here a few years ago before we moved back north and fell in love with the area. We'll probably end up retiring there. Within a 10 minute drive of the cabins you can find riding horses, kiyak and bike rentals, hiking trails and get a train ride through the mountains. Bryson City is about 30 minutes away and is a nice town with tourist shopping, but w/out being too touristy. Lots of artwork and crafts, few cheap tee-shirts, etc like you find in Pigeon Forge, which is on the other side of the Park.
