Angela Landt
Back in September of last year I posted my first ever painted mini - I'd painted it at the Paint-and-Take at GenCon. Since then I've painted off and on, mostly while at conventions (it gives me something to do while Gus wanders the dealer hall ). I do paint at home sometimes, though certainly not often enough. I'm currently working on mini #12, but decided to post a few pics of finished minis. This is Margara, my mini #7. I painted her last January. As with most of the minis I've done, I'm not all that happy with my color choices. And yes, that is a huge mold line inside the mug/stein. But other than that, I think she's ok. Thoughts? Feedback? Niloc
WOW she's fantastic ... you've really come leaps and bounds from mini #1. The eyes are GREAT ! Well painted, thanks for sharing.
ugluk69
Oh she is a Dwarf hottie....if there is such a thing . Awesome job!!!
Darkstar
I wouldn't worry too much about the mold line, those kind are a real paint to get to, and I don't think anyone who's ever tried would blame you for leaving it, I know I wouldn't. I dread seeing those when I'm prepping a mini. I've got some special dremel attachments that let me get into those kinds of awkward spaces, but before I picked them up I was always boggled as to how to remove the seam. Great job on Margera, the face is "head and shoulders" above the rest. Ouch, bad pun.
CuCulain42
I too like the face. Great job on bringing out her personality.
GeekGirl
Beautiful! Awesome job on the face. In my humble opinion, those colors work well on that figure.
Whyspyr
She's lovely-good job! I think you might be a bit happier with her if you went with a darker shade of blue on the skirt and hammer. Other than your blue being a little too light a shade the rest of your color selection is attractive. Also some lighter highlights on her hair-especially around the top of her head. The skintones are very nice-maybe just a liiiittle more highlighting on her breasts. Her face is awesome! I look forward to seeing your next mini
Kengar
Very nice paint job! Quick sculpt question: what's that in her left hand?
ReaperShaun
It looks like a big metal spike. If one were to paint it to look like wood she could be going after blood suckers.
dargrin
She is hot. But alas I would still would work me being an Orc and all. But seriously, excellent work. I couldn't pull that look off. Skin tones are perfect.
Rastl
Very clean work! Nice and crisp. And it doesn't hurt that she's one hot dwarf woman! Nice!
Angela Landt
Thanks everyone for the nice comments! Whyspyr, I think you're right, a darker shade of blue probably would have looked better. And so would NMM on the metals, but I wasn't brave enough to try it at that point! Darkstar, we bought a dremel and attachments this spring, so my more recent minis (all two of 'em!) have been prepped much more thoroughly. But yeah, without a dremel, I don't know how one would clean up mold lines like the one in that mug. Thanks again!
ugluk69
Angela, again nice work (and nice name too, my wife is an Angela). What I have done with hard to reach mold lines in areas like that is to cover them with white glue. I usually takes 3-4 coats but you can cover them so they can't be seen. Any way keep postin!! LordColdsteal
I personally really like your color choices. That is how I picture a dwarven woman looking. You did a really good job here.
ixminis
I wouldn't worry too much about the mold line, those kind are a real paint to get to, and I don't think anyone who's ever tried would blame you for leaving it, I know I wouldn't. I dread seeing those when I'm prepping a mini. I've got some special dremel attachments that let me get into those kinds of awkward spaces, but before I picked them up I was always boggled as to how to remove the seam. Great job on Margera, the face is "head and shoulders" above the rest. Ouch, bad pun. Yah, those mold lines in concave places are rough without a dremel. One trick that works if you don't have a dremel but do have a normal power drill is to find a bit that's about the right size and gently bore into the stein a wee little bit. Enough that you can file the lip of the stein... With a dremel, all ya need is a gouging burr and you essentially power-scoop the line out. Like Darkstar said.. don't worry about it too much... Finally - Most Marked improvement!!! The more fantastic jobs I see of Margara, the more I want to branch into some dwarf painting... just gotta find some "me" painting time... heh...
