It's apparently all the rage in the UK. Basically it's like crosswords, only with numbers.

 

You're given a grid with nine rows and nine columns. The grid is subdivided into nine blocks of three rows by three columns, and the object is to fill in the squares on the grid so that the numbers 1 through 9 appear one time each in each row, in each column, and in each block of squares.

 

Here's the Su-Doku page in the Times with links to puzzles (and solutions for those who like to cheat) as well as more detailed instructions on how to play.

 

I've pretty well worked out how to do the "easy" ones, and am now plodding through the not-so-easy ones.

 

Give it a try..but make sure you have plenty of paper and a good pencil eraser.
