Prologue: The Awakening

The sound of water dripping on the hard concrete echoed ominously in the small empty room. It was cold and damp, and it was dark. The little light that shone through the barred window gave the place an eerie feeling. The air was heavy and almost tangible – it smelled of death.

In the middle of the room sat a bed and on the bed was a man. His hands were bound together in a restraining jacket and he was unconscious up until now.

DM: You wake up, you’re in the room. You do not know where you are, who you are or what you are. You do not remember a thing

The man opened his eyes, looking around the stone room.

What the hell?

He tried to sit up, but found himself bound. Looking around the room, he tried to sit up from the bed, his eyes running around the room, looking for anything particular around.

DM: The barred window it too high for you to see through it. The light coming in barely illuminates your surrounding. It seems like you haven’t used your eyes since awhile and everything is hazy. From what you can discern, you are in a 20’ by 20’ room, there’s a small puddle of water in the corner where the water is dripping down and in front of the bed is a heavy door made of iron.

Barred window... a dungeon? A prison?

The man struggled against his bonds again, hoping it might break free. A feeling of claustrophobia crawled inside of him, as he stared around, but his eyes kept comming back at that door.

"He... hello?" he managed.

"Hello? Can anyone hear me?" he said, this time louder.

He was starting to panic.

"Hello? Can anyone hear me?" the man said, this time louder.

A deafening scream of a woman echoed through the corridor outside the room. The scream went on for what seemed like an eternity before it dying down slowly into a desperate moan which too died down…. Then silence except for the sound of splashing water.

Gods! Where the hell am I???

The scream made the hair on the man's back stand up, a shudder shaking his body, followed by a shivering fright. He was not sure, after hearing that scream, wether he should shut up or continue calling for help. However, his panic kept him frozen and quiet. He felt like he could hear his own breathing, along with that slashing water.

All the while, he was trying to calm himself down. He tried to stretch, wondering what was keeping him bound like that and how he could break it.

Despite trying to calm himself down, he couldn't help but to think of who, or what, that voice was, and if it was going to do that again.

Glad, at least, that his feet weren't bound, the man swung his legs out, to sit with his feet on the ground, and looked around.

For starters, he looked at the bed, to see what kind it was.

Avoiding looking at the light, he tried to get his eyes to get focus in the darkness, to perhaps see anything else in the dark room.
