look on ebay. Terrain typically sells rather cheap compaired to minis. There are also Hirst Arts kits sellers if you want to go somewhere in between total scratch built and predone.

Also look at the local model train shops. 25 mm is very close to "S" scale model trains. That scale was discontinued a long time ago, but there some things at the train shop that will work - trees, hedges, rock walls, etc.

I find most 25mm scale terrain to be too small for Warlord. Sure the bases are 25mm, but many of my guys hang WAY off their bases (bull orc fighters anyone?).

What I find works beast is Hirst stuff designed for Heroclix/Mage Knight, where each square is 1.5". As for outdoor terrain.....I'm still looking for the larger scale stuff.

S-Scale trains are 1/64 scale which is pretty close to 25mm. They are rare but non-discontinued and several manufacturers make S Scale parts that can be used for building construction. O-Scale 1/48 is a bit on the large side but blends in pretty nicely for the most part.

What are you looking for? HIlls? Trees? Buildings?

There is no such thing as cheap AND fast. The closest you could come would probably be some of the World WOrks Games cardstock stuff. It's not bad and I have gotten a lot of great comments from people in my games. I think it appeals to the average gamer more than the expensive stuff, mainly because they see it as something they can afford to buy and use.

I beg to differ, Freefall. There IS such a thing as cheap and fast. You go to your local sewing store and pick up a bunch of felt scraps. Then you write on them what it is supposed to be: trees, water, house, castle, whatever. You can't get much cheaper than that.

Hate to say it, but you'd be shocked how quickly you can make decent looking terrain. But assuming you're unwilling to give it a go...

What sort of terrain do you need? You pretty much have to make your own board... You could buy a piece of felt to lay over a table but it doesn't cost much more to crank out a really nice base board with flock and paint...

Trees you can buy pre-made from Woodland Scenics. If you're on a tighter budget, you can do their DIY kits for trees which really require very little work and you can do while watching TV.

Roads, Rocky Terrain, river beds, etc. can all be done with Cat Litter to reasonable effect. Just be prepared to do a little more clean-up after the game.

Hills are pretty much mandatory. GW puts out some pre-made ones, but for the price you could buy all the supplies to make your own and be able to make tons more... You can also do the books under the felt trick if you have that sort of set-up.

Fencing and walls are somewhat impossible without a little money or time. Again, GW puts those out. But again you can crank out some fencing with a tiny investment in balsa wood strips and some wood glue. Black prime, brown drybrush and you're done. Rock walls are tougher and you might as well buy those...

There are some very reasonable card stock buildings and such online if you have any interest in doing that much work at least... It's a little fiddly and you really have to base them or they won't hold up for wargaming at all. Making full houses from better supplies and painting them is relatively time consuming...

My reccomendation though is make one thing. Figure out what's cool about your army and make one thing that will help represent it on the field... One simple project really gives a better idea of how much time it really takes to make terrain and it won't seem so intimidating then.

Like airhead already said, look on e-bay. I don't know how much stuff is being made in Australia but here we have a lot of people who are cranking out terrain and selling it for cheap online... Other than that and GW I have no idea what sort of things you have access to over there. My recent trip to New Zealand made it clear to me that they need a lot of stuff! Like miniatures! So it could be worse. :)

I don't know, if you are looking towards the future and thinking about the amount of terrain we will need to run an 8-10 person tourny I think we could easily set aside a Sunday (whether it is one we play on or on in between) to get together and build a bunch of terrain fairly cheaply. I'm not very keep on pre-fabricated terrain, and I've got a fair bit of experience building terrain.

we have a whole forrest of trees we bought from the dollar tree (don't know if you have this chain, but it is a discount store where everything is a dollar) after christmas, so they were on sale and cost even less than a dollar. try goiing to your local craft store and buying their "Holiday display stuff" after the holidays and using this as terrain.

For swampy plants go to the pet store and buy ten bucks worth of those injection molded plastic fish tank plants. Cut them up, glue them too some card, and put flock/ballast (however you normally base your figures) on the card. Then take a neutral brownish color that will look good with the pre-done plant stuff and drybrush it on there so it doesn't look so plasticy.

For hills cut up styrofoam and put basing material on it.

all these things are cheap and you can make more than you will ever use in about 3-4 hours.

i ought to get lostpict on here, he has definate terrain-foo

For hills get some Pink (or blue)insulating styrofoam, (2 to 3 inch wroks the best) two colors of cheap latex paint and a hot wire cutter. with a hot wire cutter you can cut out a TON of hills very quickly, like in minutes. Go to a craft store and you can find a hot wire cutter for undr $10 (US). After you cut the hills out take a cheapp foam brush ($1 US) and paint with a darker color, then dry bush with a lighter color.

The hardest part is painting, but only becaues you can't spray paint and the latex takes so long to dry.
