ixminis
Hello All !!! These are some "test" skellies... The front one is drybrushed and the back one is not... I can tell the difference in the piccies, but I believe that I'm going to succumb to the brush-of-dryness to finish the army & get it on the table. To offset the drybrushing, I think I'm going to do the Necro symbol on the shields... yah? FYI, I'm trying to add a picture via upload for the first time (vs. posting it on my site)... If you don't see a piccie... gimme a minute... Thanks!
ixminis
Ah yes... I'm also going to put unit markings on their heads... That's a mis-shapen diamond on the one in the back... I rushed it... I'll re-do it before I'm done... Rgds,
Rastl
I'll agree with the drybrushing. It just seems to 'pop' more. I like the diamond. Makes sense to put unit markings there since they are really deficient on the uniform items.
smokingwreckage
Drybrushing is fine for skellies, I mean, they're exhumed bones, how smooth and excellent do they need to look, really? The other thing is that a basecoat-drybrush-based army looks way more impressive than one well painted guy and a buncha metals on plastic squares. Niloc
I'm a big fan of "take-the-time-to-do-it-right" drybrushing. Well done :-) Love the shield symbol. Thanks for sharing.
twjolson
Those look great, drybrushing is for sure a great way to make skeletons looking good. Although I'm not a big fan of strictly grey skeletons; GW's Flesh Wash as well as a wash of yellow does wonders.
Darkstar
Nothing wrong with drybrushing. It's an artform all to itself really. Also nothing wrong with putting unit identifiers on the tops of the heads either After all, that's what is mostly seen while gaming.
Mad Pat
Ummmm i'm telling....i'm gona tell Anne your using the D word. hehe Actually I think they look great. Mad Pat
CuCulain42
From the pic the drybrushed one looks better but the other one is a bit out of focus. It probably would have been more fair to compare them if they had individual pics.
Spatula
The "DB'd" one looks good...guess SailorBob knows what he's talking about.
Jabberwocky
I think the drybrushing looks fine. As Darkstar mentioned, drybrushing is a technique that is as valid as any other. In fact, I once read that Victoria Lamb uses drybrushing fairly extensively in her work--she is an Australian painter that has won several golden demons I believe. ixminis
Yup, I'm familiar with Victoria's stuff - good stuff & nice person... I'm going to take a quick pickie of the non-drybrushed... Okee - here's the same skellies with the "slightly blended" skelly in front.
Digital M@
IMO the non dry brushed one looks too polished. ou did a nice job on the blending, but unless he just came out of the local Turtle Wax Car Wash, then he is a bit too polished. I like the troop mark on the head. I say put it on their forehead like the symbol of the beast or hap hazard on their skulls like the white hand of sauromon. Forgive the spelling, i am too tired to fix it.
ixminis
Yah, I'm going to play with the placement of the symbols... and this one is definitely gonna get it re-done.... squishy diamonds don't look kewl enough...!!!
Darkstar
After seeing the blended guy up close, I have to say he looks WAY better than the drybrushed guy. For unit symbols, how about the suits from a deck of cards in black and red? Spades, Hearts etc...
