Hospitaliers

HATE .. THESE .. THINGS. I'd sacrifice a large portion of my army to take out one of these models.

 

Guardian Beast & Hound of Judgement

These critters are to be feared and respected. The Hounds Assassion Special Ability can flip the game in a second.

 

Justicars

Seek these out and destroy them quickly.

 

War Dogs

An army without a ranged attacks will be destroyed by these mongrels.

 

Lions Lancers and Ivy Crown Light Lancers

I've always hated horses, this just intensifies my hate.

If you are playing a big game then I'd use Acacia , otherewise she's just too expensive . I've used her with 6 Ivy Crown Archers and 3 Skirmishers , and have had moderate success when just pinging away and letting the enemy come to me . You can get the 3" plate of doom with this lot but the down side is the RAV of "1" . :down:

You've got some pretty good answers to your questions, so I won't go in depth too much.

 

Broderick: He is a solid Captain, but as Kelcore said, being a new player you have the lixery of buying Sir Brannor instead, which gives you a melee model nearly equal to Broderick, but who one who is also a cleric, for nearly the same points. Buy a Brannor if you're looking for another Captain.

 

Knights: These are the foundation of a Crusader force, at least with respect to the Core rulebook units. 3 blisters would be what I'd be looking at buying or just buy the Crusader starter set.

 

Ironspines: I like these little guys as well, I'd pick up a blister to start, and possibly another one later. The Crusader Knights work very well when supported by a couple of Unforgiven and a couple of Ironspines in each unit.

 

Other units: Justicars look pretty sweet, as do the Hospitaliers, but if you're in the market for some cheap guys (money wise) that have alot of bang for their buck i'd look at picking up Marcus Gideon, I think he is a great hero that is fairly underused by people here ont he boards, and you can never go wrong with Sir Malcom, or Sir COnlan.

This is something I could use a little help with...

 

As I mentioned in earlier posts, me and my buddies are quite new to Warlord (still getting accustomed to the rules and game mechanics). So far, we've played about 4 or 5 games with a Nefsokar Fighting Company vs. a Crusaders FC. Since I am the one of us who owns the rulesbook, it was up to me to make the army lists. Having no real idea of how the lists would work, I grabbed the rulesbook and made up two lists consisting of units I found both interesting and for which I had some models at hand.

The result of all our games is that the Nefsokar have won every battle so far... too clearly, that is. The main reason for their victories were their Tomb Guards, I suppose (at least three or four of them always survived with all Templars being down). Although the Templar Knights seemed a good match for these skellies, I feel that I have spent the points in the wrong places. Here are the two lists (no additional equipment and/or magic so far employed):

 

Nefsokar

 

Khadath (Captain) 86 pts

+ 9x Tomb Guards 234 pts

+ 1x Reborn 65 pts

 

385 pts Troop Cost

 

Chosen of Sokar (Sergeant) 31 pts

+ 6x Awakened 126 pts

After the third Game IIRC I put Sir Conlan's Unforgiven in Sir Malcolm's Troop (V1.1) and things went a bit better for me, but not that significantly. Now I have considered dropping the Archers completely and adding more Templar Knights, along with adding some Bless Spells. This is my new list so far:

 

Crusaders (V1.2):

 

Sir Broderick (Captain) 78 pts

+ 5x Templar Knights 135 pts

+ 3x Templar Unforgiven 84 pts

+ 2x Templar Ironspines 42 pts

339 pts Troop Cost

 

Sir Conlan (Sergeant) 30 pts

+ 2x Bless Spell 10 pts

+ 1x Bless Spell 5 pts

Total Army Cost: 748 Points

 

The idea of this list is to have enough "punch" to finish off the low DV Nefsokars like Anubis Guards and Awakened (Templar Knights basing the enemy, supported by Ironspines, and Unvorgiven in the skellies' back) quickly and to have some reserves (the second Conlan) at hand if things are getting too tight.

 

I'd be glad if you could lend me a helping hand and post your comments and sugestions for this new list. Remember, we currently play 'low intensity', i.e. no special equipment etc. Faction SAs, however, do apply (eg Sokar is Near).

That being said, the Crudader list is a pretty standard one, it should work fairly well (although I'd leave the spells at home against the Nefsokar with their -2CP ability, use the extra 15 points to give Broderick Lesser Weapon of Armour). You shouldn't be having much difficulty playing against the Nefsokar army list, things honestly look like they match up failry evenly in my opinion. The Crusaders should easily chew through the Awakened, and the Anubis Guard, even if the Tomb Guards are problematic, the games should be fairly close.

 

I wonder if this is the result of one player having a better tactical grasp than the other, have you tried swapping the army lists? Or are you each playing the same army every time.

 

I'm honestly baffled, the army lists don't look all that unbalanced compared to each other, are you using "Cross Death's River"? Is it being used properly (It requires a Invoke action so you can't do it and attack in the same action phase). I dunno.

Yes, we've been swapping the army lists. The Crusaders lists V1.0 and 1.1 fared not too bad against the Awakened and the Anubis Guards, however the Tomb Guards proved to be a different matter (in Game 3 I lost 3 Anubis Guards and wiped out the Crusaders completely). ADR was used correctly.

Still have to try list V1.2 and see how it works... :blink:
