They are a bit slow, I'd try archers pummeling as long as possible before they close. Then try to beat them via swarm tactics. More models = greater chance of killing them when they are stunned.

Slow?!?!

My swiftaxes (using two movements) with a musician can charge you from 18 inches away! I can have multiple units of those. You only get one unit of archers!! ::P:

Not to mention that when I play Dwarves, I try to take minimal magic items. I had a 28 model 1,000 point army. I know that's not majorly huge or anything, but I had a bunch of units running around that gave you lots of targets to worry about.

That's still slow ::P:

With that kind of charge, you can't attack. Your charge distance is 11". My 'Serkers have an unmodified charge of 12 inches and can still hit, or a double move of 18" without the need for silly upgrades.

Back to the topic at hand...

Dwarves are definitely a tough army to defeat, because a good tactic is to try and whittle away at them with your ranged troops to thin the herd before you engage in b2b. Unfortunately, that is a glaring weakness for the Crusaders. Still, keeping a couple Ivy Crown Archers back and using Marksmen might eliminate a couple. What you lack in quality, you can try and make up with quantity. You're bound to roll a few 10's. target the Musician first, that will totally nerf the Dwarves' ability to git up and go.

Fortunately, your troops do match up well defensively against them. A toe to toe slugfest is likely. The difficulty comes in here with Bane, where your chance to stay in the fight is eliminated. Make use of your strength with clerics and use Hold before you attack so they cannot make defensive strikes that could potentially drop you. Use Bless to boost either your Ivy Crown Archers, or your Melee grunts to make them more effective. And of course, MERCY. Try to Mercy the Piercers (great RAV and Dis 4) to get your own Archer corps without spending any points. Also, their big guys have deplorable DIS on their last tracks (often 3 or less) so whittle em down, grant Mercy, then use your strength of the bazillion Clerics you've got and Bandage them back up so they can fight more effectively on your side.

If you start firing at max range one should get at least 2-3 rounds off before being swarmed by swifties (fire and move backwards or sideways with the second action). Throw in a couple of good Part spells and it could buy me another round or two by slowing your progress or speeding up my retreat.

Might try maxing out the Battle Nuns. The 2 MAs may come in handy with thinning the ranks.

Though using Knights with their higher DV for few points may give you a better chance of survival. If you can support them with Ironspines you've got Trencher to help too.

Take a Gaurdian Angel and target and kill their mage (if they take one) ASAP to avoid area of effect spell death. Fly back and heal the unit with your clerics if it takes excessive damage. Since its a high point item, losing it is painful.

p.s. I've never fought the Dwarves so this is theory. ::D:

Absolutely! I normally take 2 bear riders in 1,000 points. I give them each Improved Protection and Lesser Magic Weapon. On their initial track, they have DV 13 and MAV 5! Pretty tough. You mercy one and heal up, ouch! It'll come stomping back through the ranks of his former teammates in a hurry.

Of course, there are two keys to all of this: 1) getting the initiative to go your way when you need it to; and 2) getting the dice to roll your way when you need them to.

If the Dwarf player gets the initiative every time you have an opportunity to hose him, and you keep rolling 1s, the best tactics in the world will always fail. But absolutely never ever ever ever forget about Mercy! I've watched a match between Crusaders and Elves where the Crusaders were down to Ironraven and the cleric guy. The Elves had only lost like 1 model by then. The Crusaders won the battle thanks to Mercy (and terrain!). Converting the evil Elf archers won them the game.

While the Dwarf piercers have crummy range, they do have volley, which increases it 6". So, be careful of that tactic being used against you. I've pulled it off a couple of times because my opponent will forget that.

If you have not already seen them , you should check out the new data cards here!

The Hound of Judgement sound awesome - MA #3 with Warmaster . Can't understand why it has Raider SA when it already has Dis 9 , although this could help when it has taken some damage .

Questions , questions - What is "judgement SA ? What is "Summoned (Cleric)" ?

Mother Superior Kristianna is totally loveable !:wub: Innate Spell (Holy Burst) ????

The Ivy Crown Skirmisher aren't bad although I was hoping for some cheapo troops .

Acacia really fits the archer role and with Blazer SA , I'm going to have to get more archers , although I think I'll have to give her Greater Magical Armour every time I field her ! :B):

I can't wait till the book comes out , CAN"T WAIT ! (Stamps feet , jumps up & down )

I think I'll lie down now .

What does holy burst do? What are its stats?

Is the MAV and DV listed on the data card for Kristianna a misprint? That seems awfully (and I mean, really) low for a warlord model, particularly for her point cost; and since Kiakara (another cleric warlord) is priced like the Witch Queen with similar stats.

Judgement sounds like Bane, is it?

Is Summoned (Cleric) just a way of saying "summoned by a cleric in game?" What's the protocol for that?

Kristianna is still awesome, though.

Is the value of Kristiana a misprint? She's got, by far, the worst stats of any warlord in the game and the least amount of special abilities.

Hmmm , after a second look , maybe she's not so hot (stats that is) . MA#1 and only MAV of 1 with a DV of 8 , hmmmm . Add Moderate Magical Weapon and Greater Magical amour (her total cost before spells = 304) , is a little help .

Hey how about atleast give her MA# 2 cause she has 2 swords ! :;):

read the asylum testing notes here... http://www.reapermini.com/forum/index.php?...topic=17538&hl=

also keep in mind that we are only getting sneak peeks here. maybe she does something more in the grand scheme of things?

we may have to see the faction book to appreciate her fully.

i do agree that she doesnt seem worth her points but i'm not overly fond of casters anyway.
