Slave Pits of Craclaw

A bit hard for some to make the trip all the way to the US of A !

I knew that not everyone can make it to Reapercon even as I wrote my post. It was meant more to show that Reaper is not in the least bit like GW when it comes to milking its customers for all their worth. They are willing to go further to please their customers. ::D:

YOu know something else to consider is that you can still have two troops of warriors, if you are playing a 1500 point game. This has never been a hinderance to me, primarily because I think 1500 is the best level of play. 1000 is too low, IMNSHO.

This is incorrect. You aren't allowed a 2nd troop of adepts until 2000 points. You get one for every FULL 1000 points, as specified on page 49 of the 2nd printing core rulebook (bottom left corner of the page).

You're absolutely right, Gus. I had 1500 points on the brain because I had just been discussing the 1501 pt level requiring a Warlord model. I'll stand by my point though, just replace 2000 for 1500 in the above argument. :B):

So, what do people think of the Overlords getting two sub-lists in their upcoming book? I'm pretty excited about this, and I don't even play them (yet)!

So let's see... the first faction to get two new warlords AND two sublists, good melee models, lots of mages, fair number of clerics, great selection of other elite models, pretty good cavalry (or great cavalry if Chevaliers can be fielded as adepts in the Onyx Legion), good solos, useful faction abilities ("Do Your Duty" and "Lock Shields")... do the Overlords have any apparent weaknesses? Oh wait, I just thought of one: they do lack a two-weapon/two-attack adept; but I wouldn't call this a substantial weakness in light of everything else they've got going for them.

Next to the Reven, it looks like these guys are shaping up to be another rock-solid faction.

As someone who has only play what...four or five games as the O'Lords, I'm looking forward to the two sublists, even without knowing what exactly they'll contain. I started with Mercs but have found my true calling with the Overlords....they just suit my playstyle so much better.

Of course it's easy to speculate about the Onyx Legion.. Matisse leading oodles of warriors (who'll be grunts I'm betting in the sublist), few if any mages (Maybe Kevis only, give us a reason to use him over Arik  ), and who knows...Onyx Chevaliers as an adept...nah, too expensive pointswise for that I'd think. Throw in some Onyx Phalanx, spearmen, crossbowmen, and maybe Balthorn as a cleric, not the new evangelist though.

The other sublist...Followers of Khardullis...that makes me wonder. Maybe Zora at the helm of that one with Daughters of the Whip as grunts? Lots of Bondslaves? I'm not sure what to expect for this one other than Arik being almost a requirement in it, given that he's an Inquisitor or maybe that new evangelist will be a big part of this army as well. Of course I'd expect Moraia to be a pivitol part of the army as well.

Ah well though, speculation just breeds rumors that usually have little end result in what actually happens, especially in wargaming.

Though one thing I do know for certain...I'll be ordering Phalanx, Daughters and a few other models once the book is released...I'm wanting to wait to see in print what they all do, officially, before I get any of them.

They are a very well rounded faction, probably the only one that rivals them in that regard are the Reven. Looking at the options I think you'd be hard pressed to say out right one of those factions has more options and stand out further than the other (granted we've yet to see the Overlord book), but it seems pretty clear that if you want a jack of all trades army either the Orcs, or Overlords are for you.

Overlords max. range is 18". (Reven can shoot to 30".) Stand back and shoot is one thing that the Overlords can't do which is a handicap for time-limited tourney games.

Did I miss something? Has there been an official post regarding the Overlord book? Can anyone cofirm this?

Thanks.

My guess is they are taking this information from the posted back cover of the book in the New Previews Gallery.

Thanks ladystorm. I missed that.

PS

I bet you are :B): . I'm getting a little anxious myself. Overlords are looking better everytime I read something new about them. They may become my second faction yet.

I wish they'd do a spoiler like the did for the nefsokar and let us see our sub-lists for playtesting.

Any one know a realease date for the book?

Are we getting any more or are we done? (not trying to be greedy ::D: )
