Silence from the Antipodean members as England manage to escape a wobbly start to their second innings, moving from 121 for 5 to close all out for 353, securing a draw in the fifth and final test and winning the series 2-1. And winning The Ashes!!!!

Some of the best test cricket ever seen, from both sides. Ozzie Shane Warne still a dangerous demon with the ball, truly a great player whilst Flintoff and Hoggard must be up there with the best seam bowlers in the world.

Roll on 2 years time!!

Tommy, I'd have loved to see Vaughan declare at tea and have a go at skittling you out for a 3-1. That would have required real cahones to do though!

Bah.  If the english win the aussies can still point at the record over the last twenty years or whatever and laugh.

Sadly it's not as easy as that. This is a rivalry that goes back years. After having the wood over them for so long the English won't let us forget so easily. It's all about them putting us "upstart colonials" back in our place. That said, how many other Aussies other there are for a republic. (Holds hand up high)

And here it comes....(purses lips in frustration) <_<

The media will be firing off shots next. No doubt.

Seriously, the atmosphere of sportsmanship and fierce but friendly rivalry that this series has been played in should shame most other sports. Even at the tightest of moments, on the field the teams have shown great respect for each other, for the umpires and for the game.

Australia played awesomely, in situations they are not used to being in and showed that they are champions, both in victory and defeat, and officially they are still the best test-side in the world.

I've heard calls to replace Ponting with Warne, which I can't understand. If you're going to replace your captain, you need to do it with someone who you hope will be around for a while, not who's going to retire in a couple of years at most. Suppose the media-hackbacklash needs a victim.

I watched cricket for a bit, and it struck me as a real world version of CalvinBall, or something Clavin would have come up with.

The scoring is goofy.

The rules are weird...

So you pitch a ball at the guy who's the hitter, and he apparently tries to hit the ball while keeping it from hitting the wickets. And if he hits the ball, he runs around the wicket and some point in the outfield back and back and forth till the batter pitcher gets the ball back. Each loop is a run or something.

So you get REALLY huge scores like 592 to 493, because the guy is running back and forth like mad.

And of course, the teams don't switch till the pitcher manages to knock down all the wickets.

This is my over simplified view from watching snippets in english pubs when I visited England. ;)
