Welcome aboard. The United Federal Forces are always looking for new recruits. :blues:

"Space: Above and Beyond". As far as the Legions that are being 'used' (the numbers anyway), most people have them in their sig lines (the ones they are using). However, most of the people on here don't mind 'their' Legion being used by other people, as long as they have been asked (for example, I know Moezilla has been asked about the UTMC), and as a Legion is very large, the sub-units can vary.

As for expanding your force, it's dependent on how much and how fast. Here are some of my suggestions (Faction Specific):

- Regent (Fire Support): Has AA (anti-gunship) and counter-battery (Anti-IA). Its weapons are decent against any type of target and has good electronics.

- Starhawk VI (Attack): Good against any type of target.

- Wolf (Attack): Good against hard targets and assaulting infantry, and can take a decent pounding.

- Thunderbird (Fire Support): This is the top of the line (IMO). Among the best and most powerful IA platform, with very good DA weaponry. Has almost all the electronic gadgets a Terran could want. Has a very high intimidation factor.

- Merlin (Gunship): Although a transport, it is a very effective attack craft in its own right.

If you're going to be at the mega-battle on the 8th, I'll see you there. If you have any specific questions, ask away.

There is the Tsukai and the Centipede.

Awesome, thanks for the advice, the Shawk 6 looked like a cool model too!

I'll see you on the 8th!

My next upgrade will likely be a few Centipedes, some Tsukais/Harpies (2 of each) and then a pair of Despot tanks, and a pair of Wolves, that ought to give me a nice broad selection of unit types so I can learn how everything works and I can play a good sized game too. Though the Merlin may replace the Centipedes.

Thanks again!!

This site needs more pictures of CAV stuff in the Show off section. I guess I shouldn't really be shooting my mouth off tho considering that I haven't painted anything in over a year.

Blah! And I'm posting in the Terran forum too! ::P:

Wow! And I was proud of my little 4000 point force I'm building.

So Outek and others, please regail me on the virtues of the T-bird. I looked at getting one, but the point cost seemed so steep that it didn't seem worthwhile. With the minimums in the section rules as they are, how can one effectively incorporate a T-bird into a force for a 2000 to 4000 point game and still be functional. They just seen way too costly for a secondary role.

Can you have one T-bird as a Sepcialist section?

How do you play these?

I'm no expert, but I've been liking the Tbird in 4k-5k games. Used in a 4-5 man FS section it is a nasty lead it with its FRS/4, then it either gives you a base +4 on a Salvo strike, or two +3 shots with the remain shots left to either fend for themselves or salvo the remainder. Basically it makes either one very powerful shot or three decent shots.

I have seen the ammount of unassembled stuff that outek has... especially infantry <_< ... he could easily fill another sabol motor pool with it easily...

he has conservatively just in infantry what i have in CAV total... especially when you count his unassembled stuff...

outek definitely loves the T-bird.... currently he has 6.... I owe him 3 and a starhawk 6...

if he got everything that he has assembled... he could easily fill up 2-4 division cases from sabol...

point wise outek has close to 100,000 points of cav stuff conservatively

(To the music of the "Beverly Hillbillies")

Let me tell ya a story 'bout the Thunderbird, big bad nasty CAV haven't ya heard. When one day was shooting at that CAV, didn't do a thing but the rest were hit real bad. Cratered that is, blasted to bits, pancaked.... ::P:

Some T-Bird basics:

The Thunderbird is several things besides an expensive Fire Support CAV. It can be a weapon of mass destruction, an electronics platform, or a decoy. But its greatest contribution (IMO) is to psychological warfare (At times when creating a force, I will tell my opponent that I am fielding T-Birds, just for their reaction). The two usual responses are to either go after it with everything they got or to give it a wide berth.

With practice they can be a nice addition to a 2000-4000 point force. In a skilled/experienced player's hands, they can be the force. I have fielded three T-Birds in a 2500 point game and obliterated my opponent(s). They took damage, and in one game I even lost one, but there usaully was nothing left of the other force except craters and smoking wreckage. (I have also fielded two of them in 1500 point games). If someone has not fielded them before or are still learning the game, I suggest not fielding an all T-Bird force until one is more familiar with their capabilities (the T-Bird).

Yes, a T-Bird can be a Specialist Section by itself. ::D:

There are different ways of using a T-Bird (quick and bare bones tips, situations vary).

- Psychological: Just by fielding a T-Bird, you got this method.

- Battlefield Suppression: IA from cover against the enemy EW units, especially if they are in the 'huddle'. Following turns, take out targets of opportunity.

- Battlefield Superiority: Take advantage of any cover to limit what can target the T-Bird and snipe/pick-off enemy IA units with PBGs. Use IA attacks against anti-hard killers.

Things to remember:

- Thunderbirds, once they've taken that first point of damage, become vulnerable due to the drastic drop of DV. T-Birds are best used 'conservatively aggressive.'

- Thunderbirds have awesome electronics (especially for not being a Recon CAV), use them.

- Thunderbirds can be fielded by themselves, but they are best when supported. Pair with at least one Regent (AA) in a section.

- If one has the points, purchase Adjustable Munitions. You can range from RAV 5 AOE/2 (against hard targets like Rhinos) to RAV 1 AOE/6 (against dispersed, low DV targets) with two IFM attacks per round.

- If there are not quite enough points to get a T-Bird, the Regent is the "poor man's" IA Thunderbird (especially with Adjustable Munitions).

Hope that helps a little.
