Reaper Bryan posted a while ago they would have the faction book, some units from the faction book, a special alternative sculpt of a non-unique mini and maybe something else that I don't remember?

check the other faction box thread for his post, I think it is there.

s there any official word on the contents of these sets or a link/news article I can review?

Yes, Faction book boxes are planned - for the each army after their book is released, that is expected to include a grunt or adept type introduced in the new book. Based on speculation earlier, we are also looking into putting in exclusive "only available in this box" alternate versions of non-unique models (A 2nd mini called Athak, same stats, new sculpt, etc.)

OH - and the Powers That Be decided that the Alternate Sculpt model would not be "Only available in the Box". It will be available in the box first, but after a few months, we would release it individually in blister.

And yes, it is slated to include a selection (6 - 9) Master Series Paints and a small How-To guide for painting armies. Considering you'll be getting the paints, the faction book, 10 models (including 1 never before available model), and the paint guide, it's a pretty good deal.

The Necropolis Boxed Set will Include the alternate Athak and 9 Crimson Knights.

The Reven Boxed Set will include the alternate Kharg and 9 Bull Orc Berzerkers.

I can't recall whcih model goes with the Crusaders Boxed Set at this time.

Give the Crusaders a litter of little ankle biter puppies. And that pug from the familiar pack as their new leader ::D:

This sounds about fitting:

Crusader/Good, Adept, Cost: 35

#MA 1, Dis 2, Mov 3, MAV 0, DV 6, MD 6

SA: Cavalry, Vermin

:poke:::P:

And they'd still be cooler than goblins... ::P:

Excellent. This makes me very happy. Thanks, PTB!

cant answer. Its interesting that Alliance has it listed yet, Reaper does not have it listed in their own business site area. I don't have an account with Alliance. Maybe i need to set one up so I can see these type announcements too.

I'd love to see boxes (not only those new starters - old and deluxe set also) with a mix of troops.

For example - Athak with 3 crimson knights, 3 skeleton warriors and 3 archer (or other combination of troops) would be a more playable warband.

I thought that way too, but the problem is then you'd buy that box and not buy anything else. This way promotes the game, allows for some per mini cost savings, provides units that normally there wil be multiples of but doesnt give you so much that it totally satisifies your needs. After thinking on it a while, I think its the best option for everyone.

I do not agree. My opinion is gamer's opinion - not manufacturer's, economist's or retailer's (who I am, by the way). Starter box, as I see it - should help to start gaming. Nice price is not everything.

Mix of troops would allow players to try different types of models and different tactics. Players would have an opportunity to find out, which models suit their style of play and to learn, how to use different models together.

I don't think, that gamers would only buy such starters and nothin else (unless they only want to have 750p warband). Gamers' first armies are usually bigger (or much bigger) than 750p, that original starters provided.Mixed troops would just help to plan further purchases - "I need more archers, I love those breakers...".

I have to agree, I've always felt that one of the strongest points about Warlord is the mixed unit troops, why not showcase it in the starter sets, it is something that really sets Warlord apart from other games and Reapers marketing department should be taking advantage of it. Even just including a second grunt/adept type would be cool.

For Example

Elves:

5 Warriors

3 Archers

Orcs:

6 Fighters

2 Hunters

Overlords

4 Warriors

4 Bond Slaves

etc...

One big disadvantage I see in the new sets (at least the Necropolis one) is that I have my 9 Crimson Knights already (as would many other players), packaging adepts, rather than grunts into the new sets may reduce sales since they are limited int he number that can be fielded. I suppose at least I can field them if I include Judas or fight in a large game, but that doesn't happen much.

As for the Athak resculpt...Doh! just finished converting one up! Still it will be cool to see him.

FOr those of you that havn't seen the new Kharg sculpt look at the datacards at Warlord HQ, he is there to be seen.
