I've invented a machine that burrowed into my brain and totally destroyed the synapses for remembering that Episodes 1-3 exist, and the special editions are a bit fuzzy as well. (I left enough to remember that I did it, and to not tamper with it)

I'm not sure who Qui-gon, mace and young Anakin are. I'm sure luke can beat them all hands down. ;)

The father-son Skywalker team eventually brought balance to the force, so must there be only one?

And Zaphod, perhaps I'm forgetting details from the regrettable Episode I, but didn't Qui-Gon refuse position on the Jedi Council?

I vote Obi-Wan simply because the delivery of the "You were my bother!" line at the end of Ep. 3 is the most believable acting in any of the 6 films.

Spoilers follow in case anyone hasn't seen all 6 episodes...

Let's see. Qui-Gon, Obi, and Mace were killed by the Sith, not that great. Anakin became the Sith, really not great. That leaves Luke and Yoda. Yoda failed to bring the Sith down and gave up. Luke succeeded in turning one of the Sith to his side. Soo... If greatness was measured by success, Luke would be the greatest Jedi.

However, I think Obi Wan is the greatest Jedi because he did not care about success or failure, only that his actions furthered greater good. He was selfless, patient, unattached from earthly desires such as material, power, or relations. He was not the masterful tactician, the powerful warrior, or the wisest advisor. But he was truest to the Jedi code and the Jedi teachings.

If Qui-gon refused a position it was through his actions. To the council he was never offered a position because he was too focused on the moment.

Best Jedi is a hard one. Everyone loves Yoda, but he was a real git. Here he is a powerful jedi and he just hides away and does not help anyone until Luke comes along. He keeps saying the darkside clouds the future and doesn't do much else. Obi-Wan also goes into hiding instead of helping the rebellion, weak arse punk! Luke wined too much and was played by the emporer. Vader was kick butt, but somehow lost the ability to fight with a lightsaber as he got older. Qui whatever his name is was pretty cool and didn't pansy out, so he probably gets my vote.

Obi_Wan, hands down. He was, as noted, not the best at everything, but was the most balanced of them all. And the most humane. Qui-Gon was too irreflexive, and the Council members were a cold, detached lot. The Skywalkers whine a lot, for all their raw power.

I'm leaning towards Qui-gon. He accomplished something no other jedi had ever convieved of doing. He found a way to maintain his individuality after re-uniting with the force after his death.

The movie only hints at this, when Yoda tells Obiwan that he spoke with an old friend and had some meditation exercises for him or some such. The book goes into WAY more detail on Qui-gon & his discovery.

This is how Obi & Yoda can project images of themselves at the end of Episode 6.

Who the heck taught Anakin this 'trick' is still up for grabs. <_<
