gwangi32
My wife and I were watching "Dead Zone" the series on USA on Sunday and lo there were some Bretonnian Miniatures. I know because I have identical ones. It was neat and led me to wonder about other appearances of miniatures on TV or in the movies. There was a Columbo Movie that had Tin Soldiers, Civil War style. And that's all I can remember. How about you all? ???
Leech
The General in the John Travolta film The General's Daughter had some civil war style miniatures in it as well.
Moderator Froggy the Great Posted March 18, 2003 Moderator Share Posted March 18, 2003 I know the movie "Ronin" had some japanese minis in it, but I really don't remember much more than that.
Flit
The Westly Snipes movie "Murder at 1600" also had some civil war minis. I think one of Terry Prachett's books had something about a characeter that painted militay style minis. I forget which one though.....and it could have been another author though..... ??? lstormhammer
I know in 'The Brak Show' Thunderclese' house (big robot neighbor) is a miniature from some third-party game company (I think they sell is as scenery for 40K) --lstormhammer
Crusoe the Painter
Harry Potter in the first movie has minis, though it is hard to get a good look. Rumors are that Reaper minis do appear in one film, and perhaps these are it... Check the scene when Harry goes to bed in his room under the stairs... -Daniel
Smokin'
When Iworked at GW Mail order, I sold a shed load of figures to a girl from a TV production company to put in a kids bedroom on a TV show - can'r remember the name of the show though... gwangi32
Obviously I'll need to keep my eye's open for more appearances! There was mention of a book above and that reminded me of Andre Norton's "Quag Keep" which had a focus on miniature figures at the beginning. numbat
I think there was an episode of McGuyver where some old guy hid his gold as casted and painted civil war miniatures. Its been a while and my memory is fuzzy on the storyline though.
smokingwreckage
In one of the Eddings books an emperor has the entire conflict mapped out with miniatures, and views it from a tall grandstand... and i was gonna say "Ronin" too!
Steven Page
Kojak had a Napoleonics mini playing villian. Twin Peaks had a Gettysburg wargame. The James Bond film, "The Living Daylights" featured another Napoleonic villian. Role-playing seens include "Freaks and Geeks" and "E.T". And, the Stephen King anthology that includes "Children of the Corn" has a funny story about a guy getting a box of the toy soldiers advertised in the back of old comic books, and they attack him when he opens it. gwangi32
This might seem like a stretch but, I was thinking of the first Star Wars movie and the game table on the Millenium Falcon that had the holographic miniatures battling each other. I would live to have moving miniatures (but not attacking me, Stephen King and Bernie Wrightson have worked that angle).
Leech
I always thought that scene on the Falcon was their version of computerised chess.... but I could be wrong. It does happen, honest :o)
gwangi32
Oh I thought it was chesslike as well, or checkers. Still I've built chess sets out of miniatures, or partially anyway. I used eight little imps for pawns and a necromancer pair for bishops, the king was the Nyarlathotep model from RAFM and so on. We didn't play chess though. It started as a chess game and became a miniature battle using the old Chainmail rules. That might have been why the Star Wars scene hit me the way it did.
