Drakkin2001
Hi, yesterday i catched an epp of "Dharma & Greg". That where she has had a car crash accident and was jumping in one foot most of the show. In a sidestory, Dharma & Greg's fathers are disputing over a leather armchair and Dharma's father dares Greg's to duel in D&D. "Here, you can be the elf", he says and shows him a miniature. he keeps the miniature wizard for himself. (so I assume that its a very old D&D first ed :P ) It was on cable and I'm not sure how popular Dharma & Greg is over there (I´m an alien, you know). sdnelson
From what people have posted and what I've read on an episode guide I'm guessing that the That 70's SHow in question is Season 3 Episode 14 Radio Daze. For those interested in tracking it down on Kazaa to watch it, the usual nomenclature for seasons and episodes would probably be one of the following: 3x13 S3E14 314 3.14 Do a search for "70s show" or "70's show" to see which is most commonly used. sdnelson
OK, new spotting of gaming/miniatures on TV. In addition to a 6th season episode where Warrens gang was playing D&D when they first decided to become super villains there was a gaming moment on the last episode of Buffy. (possible mini spoilers ahead) Since they cannot get to sleep the night before the final assault on the Hellmouth some of the group decides to play D&D to pass the time. Andrew is the DM and is wearing a "little red riding hood" cloak trying to look ominous. Giles, Xander, and Amanda are playing, Giles obviously new to the game complains about being a wounded dwarf with no mystical talents. They do have some sort of map on the table and apparently some minis, but I couldn't tell what the minis are. Perhaps someone with a larger screen TV can tell. Dragon Snack
Updated spotting: SciFi has been running the old Hulk TV series during the day. I tuned in and caught the end of the show. After he beats up a football player (who is apparently his friend, confusing) for the LA Cougars (who are wearing Chicago Bears uniforms), the show ends with him playing some sort of miniatures wargame (and David Banner loses by giving up). Hells_Clown
Another memory I have is of the movie Cloak & Dagger starring Dabney Coleman in dual roles. The kid in the movie is a huge fan of a Top Secret SI type game. They use old Grenadier spy minis and everything. A great Home Alone type movie with spies and secret agent type stuff. Take care gang, >>ReaperWolf Wow, someone other than myself as see that movie. Good call dude. I thought that movie was kinda cool myelf. I remember seeing it in the theater not long after I'd first gotten glasses. I wasn't used to wearing them and forgot them. I had to sit reeeeeaaal close to the screen in order to see what was going on. Ah memories. I'll have to watch that episode of X-Files for all the role play stuff. Though I would have NO idea about when the minis were made and catching the MERP character sheet...wow, I am in awe of the geek level in that room. I thought I was the only one who bought those rules. Never played them, way too complicated it seemed. That and I hadn't read LotR at the time so had no idea (beyond basic knowledge of the books) what was going on.

Go find a copy each of that and "Mazes and Monsters." :oo: Though I was going to go mad getting ahold of those. Orchid - who will refrain from listing the rest of her movies that people love to hate since they don't have minis
coogle
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this one yet, but in the Simpsons when Homer goes to Uni, the three 'nerd' tutors put in lots of D&D references. :D
Smokin'
Just seen 'Murder at 1600' and the main protagonist has a whole Civil War recreation thing going on in his front room - don't see him doing any painting though.
lstormhammer
Forgot about this thread, mea culpa. Alright, I can't even remember what the ad was selling, but it was a classic 'nerd and hot gal fall for each other' setup, including cutsy music and a blurry edge on the TV. At one point, the guy gives the hot gal a present, and --I kid you not-- the present was a DnD 3.0 PHB! My housemate and I both gawked, then laughed enormiously. Now I know it's slightly off-topic, but let's be honest, when's the last time you saw an ad for a DnD PHB on primetime network TV? --lstormhammer, OSG and unrepentent geek from back in the day. Dragon Snack
Actually, that's for Westinghouse appliances IIRC (some "smart" appliance company). Most versions that they show have the PHB part edited out though (and blink and you'll miss the ones with the PHB in it).
NymMoondown
it isn't TV. but there is a Weezer song: 'In the Garage' in which the first lines are "I've got my Dungeon Master's Guide I've got my 12 sided die" I think they mention minis later in the song, but it could just be my head phones. Kheprera
Speaking musically, Steven Lynch did a lovely song about D&D. Ya'll should find it and at least listen to it. :D
Moderator TaleSpinner Posted August 26, 2003 Moderator Share Posted August 26, 2003 In the movie "The Patriot", Mel Gibson's middle son paints miniture soldiers. Then when he is killed there is a dramatic scene with the minitures spilling on the ground. Throughout the rest of the movie Mel melts down the minis, one by one, to make "special" shot pellets to kill the British officers. Kheprera
I got a new one to add. In the more recent episodes of ER, Bob Newhart was playing a dying man who is slowly going blind and he paints miniatures. Civil war ones, if I spotted them correctly. mrbuddylee
I know the movie "Ronin" had some japanese minis in it, but I really don't remember much more than that. It's an older guy that they go to as a 'safe house'. He's putting together a battle of samurai. Talks about the patience in getting them just perfect, and then tells a story about the samuraiand what ronin meant and who the Ronin were. In all honesty, seeing that guy's setup and everything really got me interested in minis. Also, futurama, hilarious episode when the creator (?) of D&D was a guest with Stephen Hawking and some other guy. When he first came up, he said "Greetings! It's a" *rolls dice* "pleasure to meet you!" Classic.
