Savage Coyote 600 Report post Posted September 23, 2016 Yup! Independents can use anything they like with the idea they have either salvaged it or bought it from the manufacturer or some other dealer. They won't get a faction doctrine, but when you can chose anything in the universe, it balances out.
miniaddict 571 Report post Posted September 23, 2016 But what if you wanted the faction doctrine would they have to fall into the existing units?
Pegazus 39509 Report post Posted September 23, 2016 But what if you wanted the faction doctrine would they have to fall into the existing units?Rereading the faction info on page 39, it seems you could run an independent group with a faction doctrine if all the models are of the same faction. But at that point, it doesn't seem to matter if you're Rach or a Rach-faction independent, as it's just a name at that point. Unless you're trying to get some fluff written up, then I could see how it would be important for the fiction.
Sergeant_Crunch 7959 Report post Posted September 23, 2016 As long as your force meets the requirements for whichever faction you're claiming you're good to go. The unit name you give your force is fluff.
CAVBOSS 3204 Report post Posted September 23, 2016 If you want (for example) a Rach force group and it meets the requirements to receive the faction doctrine benefit you may call the unit anything you wish. As it was noted, the galaxy is a big place.
Corsair 28219 Report post Posted January 6, 2019 Sounds like the new KS would let the Furies run all that Malvernis' stuff without having to actually be Kahrdullis' kooks
Corsair 28219 Report post Posted January 6, 2019 Okay, the Red Spades are in the Independent Section of the rulebook. So, if they meet Faction requirements, they will be able to use Templar Doctrines, even if acting in an Almirithil force, correct?
CAVBOSS 3204 Report post Posted January 7, 2019 If your entire force group meets the requirements of a faction it can use the doctrines and you can call it anything you want. By the rules it is part of that faction.

Maredudd 2927 Report post Posted January 15 In preparation for the first Flash Point I'm working on a Merc Force from Terran territory. What is the general convention for unit accessibility for Mercs? I know 'Open' models are available. I also note that there is an number of 'Independent' units. Are they essentially the same as Open? Are Terran units also available? Or are they available only to the Terran Legions?

They have access to battle salvage from around the universe... the main Merc-orientated worlds: Argonne, Siegfreed, Harlond, and Qareen have a very varied selection for the most discriminating buyer!
